“I’m good. I was actually calling to see if tonight was a good night to collect on our bet?” she asked. I could hear in her tone that she was hesitant about asking.

My plans included reviewing a contract and going home. “I have nothing that can’t wait. What did you have in mind?” I asked, half afraid of what her answer would be.

“I just scored some free tickets to a wine and paint night. I thought maybe you’d like to attend with me.”

“Are you the model?” I asked teasingly.

Lindsay’s sweet laugh filled my office even over the phone. “And scare all the painters away?”

I’m no artist, but I’d paint you any day.

“I would guess it’s going to be a sunflower or something else spring-like.”

I’d never actually been to a wine and paint night, but I knew it beat the hell out of rollerblading. “What time should I pick you up?”

“How about six-thirty? It starts at seven.”

“Then make it five and we can grab a bite to eat before,” I suggested.

“Make it pizza and you’re on,” she said, sounding more like the confident woman I’d come to appreciate.

“I’ll be there at five,” I said before she ended the call.

I placed my phone on the desk and looked at the clock. It wasn’t even noon. There was plenty of time for me to get some work done, but I had no idea where to start. My mind was running in a million directions, but each led to one destination: Lindsay. It had only been a few days since our date, but I had thought of her often. Several times I picked up the phone and began dialing her number. Each time I found an excuse not to call. They were valid reasons. I had contracts to review, meetings to attend, and…anything else I could come up with.

I hadn’t kissed her yet. Not the way I wanted to. It had taken every ounce of restraint not to pull her into my arms and kiss her from head to toe. If we had gone back to her place for coffee, there was no doubt in my mind we’d have had sex. That wasn’t a bad thing. Hell, my cock had been aching for her for a week now. But something was holding me back and I needed to figure out what that was, and fast, before my balls turned blue.

Closing my laptop, I decided to take an early lunch and head for the gym. Not only would it kill time, but hopefully a hard workout would be enough to help me stop thinking of her, even for a little while.
