Turning back to Lindsay I said, “Tell me exactly what you need, and I’ll be sure to have them sent directly to you.”

Her eyes widened. “You’re not joking, are you?”

Clark said, “Phillip never jokes.”

Lindsay handed me back the money and said, “It’s a deal. And this belongs to you.”

“What address should I deliver the tickets to?”

She pulled out another business card and said, “This one has my personal information, including my address. I need to deliver the tickets to Greg before noon today.”

I slipped her card into the breast pocket of my coat. “You’ll have them.”

Lindsay looked at me as though she highly doubted I could deliver what I promised. Then she left.

I never lost when I wanted something. But why did I even want this? She wasn’t a client of mine. Helping her wouldn’t grow my business. And everyone knows I value business over all else.

I turned back to Clark and said, “From now on, all meetings take place in my office.”

He laughed. “Really? ‘Cause from where I sit, it didn’t look like you minded this meeting at all.”

“Are you kidding me? Did you notice how many distractions we had?” I asked.

Grinning from ear to ear, Clark added. “How could I? You stood there blocking my view.”

You’re such an ass.I wanted to argue, but the truth was, I had a vivid picture in my mind of what she looked like, how she moved, and even the snippy tone she used when challenging what I said. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I was attracted to her. She wasn’t my type at all. I’m partial to blondes and women who are not quite so…outspoken. But Lindsay Maxwell intrigued me and I couldn’t figure out why.

I had no time for this train of thought. My word is everything, and I promised I’d get those VIP tickets.

“Be sure to have those contracts sent over as soon as possible. My schedule is very tight today,” I stated as I prepared to leave.

“Just as I don’t need to hire someone to stand in line for me, I am very capable of making a few calls.”

“Guess you have more free time than you thought,” he replied.

Snorting, I added, “Keep it up, and time won’t be something I have for you.”

I made it down the elevator and when I exited the building, I couldn’t help but look towards where I had first talked to Lindsay. There were at least a dozen people now standing in line, but she wasn’t one of them. She had been correct. It didn’t take long for someone to swoop in and snag her spot. Were all these people stand-ins? It seemed like an unusual career choice. Then again, I’d heard of much worse.

I stepped out towards the curb, and my limo pulled up. It wasn’t even six in the morning, but I needed to call in a favor and get those tickets. I got into the limo and pulled out my phone. Once this was off my plate, I could concentrate on something much more important. Work.

Moments later, I was assured the VIP tickets would be on my desk within a few hours. Not that I was relieved, but I knew Lindsay would be. I might not consider her job a valid career choice, but I respect someone willing to fight to keep a client happy. It seemed I’d be sending my secretary on an errand this morning.

Or maybe I’ll deliver those tickets myself.
