She didn’t even bother to deny it. I wasn’t going to win this argument and actually, I wasn’t sure I wanted to. The night had ended too quickly with Richard. It didn’t help that we’d had a late start and I had an early morning ahead. Better get this over with or she’ll never let me go home.

I dialed his number, and by the fourth ring I was ready to hang up. No way was I leaving a voicemail. What would I say? Hey, want to get together and rock my world? Not on my life.

But he answered.

“Hello, Joyelle. How are you?”

Horny. Frustrated. Lonely.“I’m good. How was your ride home?” God. What is wrong with me? Can I get any more boring?

“Good. Were you hoping that I’d break down and need a tow?” he joked.

I chuckled. “It would break my heart to have to put that McLaren on my bed.” You on the other hand, not so much. I blushed and turned away so Lizzy wouldn’t see. “I was calling to see if you’d like to give actually eating dinner another try? Not at Uncle Mario’s, either.”

There. I’ve done it.I asked him out. Well, kind of. If he said yes, then we would see where it goes from there. If he said no, I guess I should consider picking up more batteries on my way home.

“I’d like that. Unfortunately, I’m unavailable until Thursday. Would that work for you?” he asked.

That was only two days away. It would give me plenty of time to gather the courage I’d need to act on Lizzy’s advice. “That works for me. I don’t want you to drive all the way to Cranston. How about we meet somewhere in the middle?”

“What do you say I pick you up at home and we can take it from there? How about seven again?” Richard suggested.

My stomach was doing flips. It was exactly what I was trying to avoid. He’d see where I live, and I couldn’t have him there. But I couldn’t bring myself to say no. “That’s fine. I’ll text you the address.”

“See you then. Have a good night, Joyelle.”

“You too, Richard.” I ended the call and quickly texted him the address. Then I turned to face Lizzy.

“I heard,” she smiled and clapped.

“Don’t get excited just yet,” I said.

“Why? Are you already planning on backing out?” she asked. I shook my head and she asked, “Then what’s the problem?”

“I gave him your address.”

Her jaw dropped. “My address? I’m not going out with him,” she said firmly.

“You’re right. But my place is too small. I can’t have a man over there. Remember, I have a twin-size bed. Might as well just do it on the couch or the kitchen table.”

Lizzy snickered. “Done both. Couch is much softer, but the table has its advantages, too.”

God help me.I ignored her and said, “So if you want me to see him again, he’s picking me up here and you’re staying at my place.”

Lizzy sighed. “I hope you know that friends like me don’t come along all the time. But fine, I’ll stay at your place for the night. But I expect to hear all the wild details after.”

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Richard agreed to dinner, not dessert,” I reminded her.

“He’s a man. Use that sexy body of yours and you’ll get what you want. Trust me,” she smirked.

That was my issue. What did I want?

Well, I guess I have two days to figure it out.
