“I guess,” I said.

“You’re kidding, right? Because Richard didn’t take his eyes off you the entire weekend. Well, at least not the times you two spent with us,” she teased.

“It was fun,” I replied, not wanting to feed into Lizzy’s belief that this weekend was something more. Richard had kissed me goodnight last night, but as usual, there was no discussion about seeing each other again. And I’m not calling him this time. If he wants me, he knows how to find me. “How about you and Clark? You guys make a connection?” I hated to admit it, but I’d been so focused on Richard that I never even noticed what was going on with them.

“We had a nice time, but we are too much alike to be attracted to each other.”

“I’m glad you had fun,” I replied.

She huffed. “I said nice, not fun. It’s not something I ever want to do again. The best part of this vacation was the ride on the UTVs. I tried asking Clark if I could drive it, but he refused. He said I’d probably see a bug and ram into a tree. Can you believe that?” she asked.

Most definitely.

She went on. “I’m also glad to have gotten to see you…happy.”

“I’m happy all the time,” I corrected her. At least on the outside.

“I’m your BFF. It’s been a long time since I have seen you smiling like this. You looked so relaxed. I am sure it has a lot to do with Richard, but he chose well for your getaway.”

“He did,” I replied softly. It wasn’t only the sex that rocked my entire body and left me so weak I wasn’t sure I could make it off the mountain, but the fact that he seemed to have thought out each activity with my likes in mind. It was perfect.

“Camping is really your thing, isn’t it?” Lizzy asked.

I nodded.

“Richard seemed to be in his element out there, too.”

“He was,” I agreed. The way he climbed the steep cliff, every muscle of his body was rock hard as he pulled himself, then me, up the side. It was impressive, yes, but watching him move his body was a view I’d never grow tired of seeing. At least I’ll have some very sweet memories.

“When are you calling him?” Lizzy asked.

“I’m not. And before you give me another lecture about how things are different now, and women can take the lead, maybe I don’t want to,” I said honestly. There was no point in telling myself that this was just a sexual attraction. There were feelings developing and that was dangerous ground. It meant I could get hurt. I’d had enough of that in my life, I didn’t need any more. It’s all your fault, Richard, for being so damn…nice.

“So if he calls you, then what?” Lizzy prodded.

“I have other things to think about right now. Like how am I going to get home? I have an early morning tow.”

“Uber?” she grinned. I shook my head and Lizzy got up in a huff. “Fine, I’ll go get dressed. But I hope you know that this would be a lot easier if you told Richard the truth.”

If I did, he’d run, because the truth is I’m falling for him.

“I’m going to be late,” I said impatiently.

“Blah. Blah. Blah. I get it. You’re done talking about Richard.”

Now if only I can stop thinking about him, I might actually get my paperwork done today.

If Richard was correct and I could use what I’d learned running my own business for college credits, then I sure as heck better get everything in order, including good ol’ taxes.

God, I hate Mondays.

My day didn’t end up being a total waste. I had six cars to repo and I was able to snag each one. The paperwork would need to wait till tomorrow. I was exhausted and all I wanted right now was a hot shower and some very much needed sleep.

I stripped off my uniform and turned on the water. It figured - just as I got one foot into the shower, my phone rang. Whoever it was, I’d call them back later. Most likely it was Lizzy calling to try one last time to get me to reach out to Richard. I didn’t want to hear it. Not tonight, at least.

I could avoid a lot by telling her Richard texted me earlier to tell me what a nice time he had, but the less I told her about him right now, the better. To Lizzy it would be a sign that Richard had feelings for me. To me, he was just being nice. Something he’s really good at.

He had hinted about us having dinner this week, but nothing was set in stone. Maybe that was a good thing. My schedule was tight right now. From the sound of it, so was his.
