“I don’t want to interrupt your family time.”

“You’d be doing me a favor. How about I pick you up for dinner tomorrow?” I asked.

PJ paused for a few seconds, then nodded. “Sounds good. Let me give you my number.” She rattled it off and I added her to my phone contacts. “But it will have to be early. I need to be at work at six.”

“Then let’s make it a late lunch,” I suggested as we continued towards our vehicles.

Once I watched PJ drive away, my cell phone rang. Looking at the caller ID, I knew I was late.

Even before I could say a word, Lizzy snapped. “Where the hell are you? You were supposed to be here two hours ago.”

“Sorry, I’m on my way.”

“Don’t have to worry about me. Joyelle has been blowing up my phone. Have you forgotten, I was doing everyone else’s shopping, too?”

Shit. I guess I did. “I know what will make it better.”

There was a shop nearby that sold homemade fudge. It wouldn’t earn any points with my brothers, but it would soften the blow with the ladies.

I wonder if PJ likes fudge.

Even though our upcoming date was just an excuse to check on her, I might as well pick her up some, too.
