Joey looked at me and I nodded. “Go be with her. She needs you now. They both do,” I said.

He kissed my cheek and followed the doctor into the recovery room.

I let out a heavy sigh of relief. She was going to make it.

“PJ, are you okay?” Clark asked from behind me.

I spun around and leaped into his waiting arms. “She’s out of surgery. She’s…going to be okay. She has to be okay.”

He kissed the top of my head and said, “I’m here for you as long as you need me.”

Then you’re never leaving, ‘because I can’t let you go. Not again.

“Clark, can you take me home?” I asked.

He loosened his hold, and then grabbed my hand. “I’ll take you anywhere you want me to.”

“I just want to go home.”

We walked out of the hospital without another word. Even though I missed him like crazy, he knew my mind was elsewhere. Tonight, he wasn’t my lover. He was my rock, my shoulder to lean on, and my friend. Tomorrow if Crystal’s prognosis was good, then Clark and I could talk. I needed to tell him what he meant to me.

I love you, Clark. I didn’t want to, but you made me.
