"Priestess," she greeted Nariana, ignoring me completely.

Except for her eyes. Lurel's gaze jumped up to meet mine, and it was a look I recognized. The same one she'd had when she'd warned me I needed to know where Cal was. Wait...

But Nari was staring at Lurel, quickly putting the pieces together. Pulling in a deep breath, she walked into the room and turned to find her partner. "Hello, Calvor," she said, sounding so sweet - even though I saw the fire in her eyes. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting."

He chuckled. "I haven't been here long, I promise. I was just a little excited." And he glanced over at me. "It's been too long, Talin."

Before I could think of a way to reply to that, Nari took over. "Lock the door, if you would, Lurel?" she asked, reaching up for her hair.

She pulled out the first long pin and dropped it on the table before Calvor, the gesture a clear warning. Then she withdrew the other, letting her hair tumble down. That pin was set a little further back, the placement careful to make sure one could be reached from either side of the table. Watching her, I realized she was a natural at this, because her actions looked nothing more than sexy. Yet I knew she'd figured out this was my ex. That he'd picked her to torment me. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Eladehl had told her all about how he'd used me, and she was making plans to get my revenge.

But then she grabbed one of the padded chairs at the table and slid it back against the wall, right beside the door. Without looking away from Calvor, she grabbed the other and pushed it at me. The legs slid easily on the marble floor, and I caught it without needing to try.

"Please sit and be comfortable, guardians," she purred, seductively making her way to Calvor.

The room wasn't big, but it was big enough. The design was similar to my own room, but without the attached kitchen and with a much smaller bathroom. From the door, there was that small table on the right with three chairs. Nari had left one untouched. Across from that was a bed. One sized for two people, but only barely. The sheets on it were black. The pillows on it were cheap. Besides that, there was nothing else in the room. No one had made an effort to decorate it for a pair of priests, but if this had been a patron, I knew there would also be food and flowers to soften the stark colors.

And Nari ignored it all. In the three steps between the table and where Cal stood beside the bed, she unzipped her dress, slipped it off both shoulders, and let it fall to the floor. Beneath was the most amazing lingerie I'd ever seen. Black silk hose came up to her thighs, lying just under the band Zeal had drawn to tease the eye. Garters held that to a red and black corset which closed down the front with dozens of tiny metal clips, making it look almost seamless. It stopped just below her breasts, giving them support, yet leaving those beautiful globes accessible. Then there were her panties, which were secured only with the smallest laces tied over each hip.

Cal could choose to remove only those and enjoy the lingerie, or he could take his time removing it all. She'd given him the choice, and from the look on his face, he couldn't decide. His eyes drank her in, realizing exactly what he'd just talked into his bed, and I could see his dick already hard in his pants.

Then Nari grabbed his throat, leaning into his face. "You wanted it intense, right?" she asked, her words dangerously soft. "Then let us not pretend. You chose me because you want him." She slowly looked back at me, forcing Cal's head to follow with her hand. "I'm sure Lurel told you we met. You probably thought this would be a wonderful way to make him pay for leaving you."

"Mm," Calvor said, leaning into her hand. "I'm honestly impressed. There's one part you forgot. You see, if you leave now, you fail. At this rate, it won't be long before they kick you off the Path of the Body. That means, you have to fuck me, and hehas to watch." Cal's eyes jumped to me. "I told you I would make you pay for leaving me, Talin. Now I'm going to take the one thing you want and cannot have."

I said nothing. I would not make Nari choose her grade over my pride. And from the way she was holding him, I wasn't convinced my pride was going to hurt too bad by the time she was done.

"He's not a virgin," Nari said. "It's funny that everyone assumes we were simply paired together out of the blue, but Zeal doesn't work that way. You see, I snuck out the night after my grades were posted and before my Choosing. Oh, my instructors know, but it's a little loophole in the rules, you see. Once we receive our final grades, we're no longer students. That means the prohibition on penetration doesn't apply."

"What?" Calvor asked.

Nari smiled cruelly. "And I seduced him at his inn. I didn't know who he was, and he didn't know me. Still, we fell into bed that night together and made sure it was memorable. Imagine my surprise to see the man who took my virginity bearing my marks on his back. You see, Calvor, he had mefirst. That means you're going to have to work to prove you're better than him, because your plan isn't going the way you wanted." She reached down and palmed his dick, stroking it through his pants. "And he's in charge of your grade. That failure thing works both ways."

Chapter 27

Talin

Ihad never been more turned on than I was watching Nari take complete control of the situation. With a push, she knocked Calvor back onto the bed, the man landing in a sitting position. Then she crawled into his lap, making it clear she wasn't about to back down.

"So, here's what you're going to do," Nari said, bending her head to place her red lips beside his ear. "That is your audience: our guardians. They have been denied the pleasures of the flesh."

"They can't get invol- " he tried.

But her teeth closed on the lobe of his ear hard enough to make him shut up. "Tonight, they can. You see, I am so much more than you could imagine. That door is locked. What happens in here is between us, and now I am in charge." She stood, and then stepped back. "Take off your clothes, Calvor."

I glanced over at Lurel, having seen him strip more times than I wanted to remember. Her eyes jumped over to me and she shook her head. "I didn't know," she mouthed.

I believed her. For so long, she'd loved him, always rejected because he wanted more. Lurel wasn't pretty. She was cute on a good day, and plain for most of the rest. She was also too kind for her own good. I'd never expected to see her as a guardian, yet this was the Path she'd longed for, and Calvor was the ward she'd dreamed of.

I just hoped this wouldn't be too hard for her. Then again...Zeal,I begged in my mind, please release Lurel's rings. At least for tonight. Otherwise, she will pay the price for my mistake, and that's not fair. Swap the pain if you need to, but do not make her suffer for this?

There was no response, but I also hadn't expected one. The god had made it clear that he wouldn't intrude on Nari unless he was specifically invited. I also knew that he'd been making a habit of fixing rings without making an appearance.

But Calvor had clearly learned a few things as an initiate in the Path of the Body. He'd shed his vest, tossing it beside her dress on the floor. Now he was slowly working free his ascot. The long silk cloth slid away from his neck, and he draped it around Nari's. She ignored it, her look making it clear she had yet to be impressed.

So he began unbuttoning his shirt, taking his time about it. Nari made a small noise of dismissal and pursed her lovely red lips. Realizing she had no intention of fawning over him, Calvor decided to double down. He pulled at his lapels, sending at least one button across the room as he exposed his chest for her inspection.

I knew he wanted her to step in and touch. That was what he liked most, to be adored for his hard physique. He simply had no idea what she was comparing him against. Beside Wraythe, this man looked weak and pallid. Nari simply dropped her eyes to his pants.
