Chapter 61

Talin

Amerlee and Jamik were miracle workers. Thanks to their help, Nari got to casually study for her exams, and by the time her tests came, she was ready. Ela had a little issue in his Sensuality course, but he still came out with a good. Wraythe, Anver, and myself passed most of our classes with flying colors. Our legal courses were the only exception. While Anver got an excellent in Laws of Calseth, Wraythe and I were happy with our goods in Legalities of Force. For the last two weeks of the semester, we'd packed. Every time Nalph finished an outfit, the new owner would try it on, be sure it fit, and pack it away. Shalsa and Irila helped with that, making all of us show them our attire just to prove it was good enough for my brother's household. Sometimes changes were made. Most times Nalph got it right on the first try. We were ready.

Wraythe and I had just finished our last exam and were walking back to our suite. Ela had agreed to walk Nari to her First Aid class, and he said he'd wait for her to get done. No, we wouldn't get the grades for these before we had to leave, but that was ok. I knew I'd at least passed. But, just as I turned down my hall, I saw that Priest of Obligation standing outside our door, shuffling his feet like he was nervous.

"Drandir?" I asked as I walked up.

"Sir," he said. "I'm here to inform you that your carriage is at the front, waiting."

I chuckled as I unlocked the door and gestured for him to step inside with us. "Well, we can start taking down the luggage, but Nari's still in class."

"First Aid test," Wraythe explained.

"Shit," Drandir breathed. "The driver is adamant that he doesn't want to wait."

I held up a finger and headed over to Nari's stationary. She had cards in there, and whoever my brother had sent, he was clearly used to dealing with the peerage. So, scribbling out a message for him, I signed my name boldly at the bottom, and passed it to Drandir.

"If you'd like to hand him this," I said, "then it becomes my fault instead of yours." When he took the card, I gestured to the corner of our living room that was now filled with luggage. "And I have three gold for the priests who'll take all this down."

Drandir smiled at me, tapping the edge of the card against his finger. "She needs about an hour, would you say?"

"Mhm."

"Then I think we only have one priest available to bring down the luggage. Keep your gold, Priest Talin. Let me deliver this to the driver and assure him that we can start loading it all." He looked over the stack of trunks and cases. "I'm not convinced it will all fit, though."

"Then it seems they'll have to make two trips, hm?" I offered. "After all, the Ranndor family's guests shouldn't be put out."

"One day, you'll have to teach me how to deal with nobility," Drandir joked. "Let me run this down, and I'll get a trolly to carry some of that."

"The trick," I told him, "is to make it clear that you are more important than him. He's just a driver. You are a priest who speaks to a god. When he tries to make you feel foolish, just remember that one thing."

Drandir nodded, then left. Behind me, Wraythe groaned and leaned over the counter in the kitchen. "So, we need to look all pretty, right? That's going to take Nari more than a few seconds."

"So we make it easy for her." I waved for him to come into the bedroom with me.

Together, we found her a pair of leather pants, her most seductive boots, and a shirt and corset to go with it. Maela would be used to the look, but my brother had probably never seen a woman in pants that weren't baggy. He wanted to make a scene, so I would definitely help my desire do just that.

Wraythe found the case with Nari's cosmetics and set that on her mirrored table. Her hair would be fine loose, so we didn't have to worry about that. Next, I went to find all of our coats, and Wraythe pulled out a proper suit for each of us. By the time Drandir was back, everything else could safely go.

The man filled the trolly, but it was barely a third of the luggage. Before he could leave, I passed him the coins, and then Wraythe and I went to change. I was just tying on my cravat when the front door opened again.

"Drandir?" I called out.

"No, it's me," Nari yelled back. "Is the carriage already here?"

"And we've been putting it off," I told her. "Come change, you two."

"Yeah, because I need your help, Ela," Wraythe grumbled.

I turned to find the big guy's shirt and cravat twisted. "Here," I said. "Let Ela get dressed. I got this."

"Aww," Ela said as he stepped in and began stripping off his clothes. "You two are a cute couple."

"Fuck off," I told him. "You have fifteen minutes to get pretty enough to make the Baron of Temptation rethink his plans with your partner."

"Easy," Ela assured me.
