I glowered after him, watching as he left. Rage built in the pit of my stomach, dragging the monster within to the surface. He always did push his luck, but he was just a kid compared to the rest of us. Only three years into being a vampire. Shame he wouldn’t see his fourth.

I turned, stalking Gwen as her and Astor went their separate ways. I couldn’t follow her, not wanting to succumb totemptation, but I couldn’t help myself. I’d learned everything about her movements over the past few days. Edwin had delivered the details of her schedule, which is why I knew she would be alone tonight. Not only had I been informed of her movements, but also ofAstor’s. He’d been disappearing at random times of the day, for hours sometimes. We’d yet to catch where he went, but knowing he was up to something put me on edge.

There was more to him than met the eye. He’d latched onto Gwen, using her and Velda to grow in power. I discovered he sold out the Guild for Protection of Mortal Beings back in Baldoria, giving up his own brothers in arms location, allowing their slaughter to save his own neck. Ravena was here because of his selfishness, and he’d hurt Seraphina in the process. I didn’t trust him for a second, and Gwen shouldn’t have either. I didn’t know what he’d done to gain that trust from her, but he didn’t love her. Nor did she love him. And for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why they were still together.

I followed her, giving her enough space that it wouldn’t be obvious. I didn’t want to be lured in again, but I couldn’t help myself. Everything about her spoke to me; no matter how much I tried to fight the urge to see her, she kept slipping into my head. She closed her door, and I crept up slowly, listening from outside. The whoosh of the taps turning on, splashing water into the bathtub drummed into my ears, and I pulled down the handle, my heart hammering in my chest.

THIRTY-FOUR

Niall

Stay away. That’s what Adrian told me, and yet I found myself standing in the corner of her room, watching the candle flickering from her nightstand, transfixed by the dancing flame.

She would be in any minute now, as I heard the water empty from the tub. There was no escape. Not that there ever was. Soon that bathroom door would be open, and she would climb in for the night. I eyed the sheets, envy purring in my chest as I imagined them clinging to her body.

I shouldn’t be here. My heart raced at the thought of being finally alone with her, even if it wasn’t her choice. But there was something about Gwen. I couldn’t stay away, like a moth flying close to fire.

I recalled how her gaze pinned me across the room earlier that day as my betrothed unknowingly clung to my arm, pulling me into another dance. All while Gwen occupied my every thought as I undressed her with my eyes.

The bathroom door opened, and I peered into the darkness. An orange hue soaked the room, and adrenaline seared through my veins at the thought of being caught. A faint smell of vanilla and lavender drifted over, intoxicating me.

Even her fuckingscenthad me addicted.

She was my personal sin. I was crossing a line, one I wouldn’t be able to come back from. I shouldn’t want this. But I burned for her.

I would leave before she noticed, I reasoned. Once she was asleep.

I watched her from the shadows, taking in the curves of her figure as she walked, a slight tilt to her wide hips. A slice of black silk barely covering anything hugged her body, stopping at the top of her thighs. When she turned, the fabric moved, rippling enough to reveal a hint of the undercurve of her round ass.

My dick throbbed at the thought of running my fingers over her ass, cupping her cheeks as she lifted them, ready for me.

“It’s not nice to stalk.” Her voice was liquid sex as she innocently leaned over the dresser, the nightgown sliding up her lower back. She hummed under her breath, acting as if she wasn’t purposely showing the slit of fabric covering her pussy. “You can come out.”

My breath caught in my throat as I stepped out from the darkness, my dick hard in my pants.

She ran her fingers through her blonde waves. “Why are you in my room, Niall?”

“I shouldn’t be.” The words fell from my lips before I could take them back, not that it mattered. I was enraptured by her presence. My gaze dropped to her lips as she turned. Her eyes slid to mine, widening, as if she was just as captivated by me.

She was everything.

“You should leave—” She inhaled sharply, purposely averting her gaze. “—before anyone finds out you’re in here and gets the wrong idea.”

I stayed rooted to the spot, sucked into the way she moved, like she knew exactly what she was doing when she ran her fingers over her clavicle, glancing over her shoulder at me with those bedroom eyes.

“You looked bored earlier,” I concluded, shifting a couple of paces closer. “On the arm of your asshole boyfriend. I see you two made things up.”

“He’ll be here soon,” she said, as if I didn’t already know every part of her schedule. We had about fifteen minutes at the most before he came to take the orgasm that was mine. “And you are engaged.”

I wetted my lips, unable to even form an image in my mind of Penelope. She didn’t know that I was thinking of Gwen when I was dancing with her. Of how she would taste, of the way she might thrust into my mouth.

My gaze drifted down to her chest, my dick pulsing with heat when I saw the perfect line of her cleavage. The light from the candle soaked her, revealing her large, hard nipples under the silk. It would be rude not to stare.

“Niall,” she said, a strain in her voice. “Astor is coming any minute now.”

She stepped closer, an unnerved edge in her movement as if she could feel the tight magnetism between us. If either of us got too close, we would both burn.

There were only inches between us, the bed a shove behind her. I couldn’t be doing this. She was right; I had to leave before I was devoured into something I couldn’t come back from. But I couldn’t pull away, sucked in by the knowing, lustful sparkle in those sapphire eyes.
