Wilder snarled, as he took the seat beside Avery. “There has to be a bond option.”

“Omegas get no bond. I explained that,” Tensen said, focusing on Wilder. “There’s nothing that will get him out before his court date. Not with these charges.”

“And with the presumed guilt, that means—” Rohan paused, his gaze falling on Wilder’s.

“What?” Avery asked, not sure what the look was.

No one replied. Avery searched their faces and couldn’t determine anything. His gaze flicked to Tensen’s—who only sat looking grim.

“What?!”

“You’ll be there… during a heat,” Rohan said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Wilder growled low in his throat before standing, the legs of his chair scraping violently against the cement floor. Avery reached for him, but he was gone… pacing with his fists at his side.

Rohan’s words settled deeper, his mind truly realizing what the man meant. “You mean… because I’m presumed guilty that I’ll be… forced…” He stopped, unable to say the rest out loud. “Before I get my day in court?”

“Yes,”Rohan whispered, his voice raspy.

“They can’t make me… not without the trial.”

“They can. And they will,” Tensen murmured. “You’d best realize that—and the implications of it—before you agree to this course of action.” Tensen twisted to cast a look Wilder’s way. “Unless he’s already pregnant?”

Tensen spun to eye Avery, one brow arched.

Avery’s stomach fluttered as his gaze flipped to Wilder’s. Wilder held his stare, his lips parting. Avery could see the disillusionment in his mate’s eyes and hated that he’d put it there. Wilder eventually pulled his gaze away.

“We used protection,” Wilder whispered gruffly before continuing his pacing. “Now I wish we hadn’t.”

“Everytime?” Rohan asked.

“Ithink,”Avery replied. Some of the hours they’d spent in bed had been but a blur of lust and limbs entwined. But then… there had been that first time. On the conference table. Just the memory of it sent a tremor down his spine.

Tensen jotted something down on a piece of paper and ripped the page from his portfolio. He pushed it across the surface of the table toward Avery.

Condoms or something else illegal they might charge you with?

As soon as Avery lifted his head from reading that, Tensen snatched it away and tore it to shreds before placing the tidbits into his assortment of papers.

“Condoms,” Avery answered. Curiosity got the better of him.“Isthere something else?”

Tensen eyed the guard and waved his question away with the flick of two fingers. “Glad you used condoms so we won’t have any last-minute surprises or additional charges. Now back to what I was telling you originally. At your court date, you’ll have all of us there with you for support,” Tensen said. “Looking at the notes, I see the Red Guardsmen are investigating your dealer. They want to know where you got theHeatexand theScentex. Giving them some details could help your cause.”

“I’ll take that to my grave,” Avery replied. No way was he incriminating anyone.

“I expected as much, but it didn’t hurt to ask,” Tensen added. “The Red Guardwillsearch, and they might find them. They’re going through your cottage now, searching for evidence.”

Avery gasped, wide eyed. “Lake? Where is he? Is he okay? Dear gods, I hadn’t even thought about him over the last few days. What a shitty brotherIam.”

“Lake is fine. He’s at the cottage. With Gray as well as another attorney friend of Tensen’s. He’s there to keep tabs on the search,” Rohan replied. “Don’t worry about your brothers. We’ll make sure they’re safe.”

“How is Uncle Gray holding up?”

Rohan met Avery’s stare. “He’s terrified for you.”

“Tell him…” Avery hesitated a moment. “Tell him how sorry I am. I should’ve listened to him.” Avery winced. “It’s too late now, I know.”

Rohan nodded before gently murmuring, “I’ll tell him.”
