Hours later,Gray and Rohan welcomed little Emmanuel. Both baby and papa made it through with flying colors. During the hours of labor, Wilder had gone to their home and picked up Auggie and Lake—per their request, via text. Lake had snagged his number from someone.

The three of them crowded into the birthing room soon after the babe had arrived, ooingandaahingover ten tiny toes and ten tiny fingers.

Rohan lifted the tiny bundle and placed it into Wilder’s arms.

“Oh, he’s too tiny. I might hurt him.”

Rohan clapped his back. “You’d better get ready to handle a newborn. Before long, you’ll have one of your own.”

Mixed emotions swamped him as he looked down into the baby’s face. Just months ago, he hadn’t been ready for an omega and a child, but fate had intervened. Suddenly, he couldn’t wait to see the babe they’d made together… but knowing Avery might not be there with them caused an ache in his chest that nearly took his breath away.

“You okay?” Rohan whispered, eyeing him closely.

“Yeah,” he answered. “I just hope—”

“We’re going to do everything we can to get him out of there, so he'll be home when this happens,” Rohan whispered.

Wilder nodded, hoping like hell Rohan was right.

“All I know is I can’t wait to be an uncle to your little one,” Gray said from where he lounged in his hospital bed. “We won’t have any more little ones after this. I’ll need my baby fixes… so you’d better plan for a whole brood.”

“Well, the way you and Rohan have been going, who knows if this one’s the last,” Wilder said with a wink.

Gray’s smile faded a bit. “No, this isabsolutelythe last baby for us.”

Wilder glanced at Rohan, who shrugged but clearly was aware of what Gray spoke of.

“This little guy was my limit. They had to take my womb,” Gray announced, tears coming to his eyes.

“There are enough babies in your house,” Auggie stated.

“Dumbass, he’s sad. Don’t be a dick,” Lake said, lightly punching Auggie in the shoulder.

Auggie rubbed his arm. “Still, he’s got plenty.”

“But now his choice is gone,” Lake said. “Regardless of if he wanted more or not, he no longer has a choice. What do you think we’ve been protesting about, you little idiot? An omega’s right to choose.”

Wilder met Gray’s shining eyes.

“We don’t want any more. Auggie is right. We have a big, beautiful family.” He smiled sadly before eyeing Auggie, Rohan sliding into the bed beside him and giving the omega a gentle kiss to the forehead. Tears brimmed in Gray’s eyes. “But your brother is right, too, Auggie. Knowing there can never ever be another baby just makes me a little sad.”

“Oh,” Auggie muttered. He sat on the edge opposite Rohan and took his uncle’s hand. “I didn’t mean to make you cry.”

Gray wiped an escaped tear. “There's no reason to be sad today. There's a new baby to celebrate!”

“Yay,” Auggie said sarcastically. “More poopy diapers, screaming at three a.m., and someone else getting in my stuff.”

“Jerk,” Lake cried, offering Auggie’s shoulder another tap.

The babe in his arms squirmed a bit before letting out a cry louder than such a tiny package should’ve been able to emit. Rohan rose, rushing over.

“Sounds like someone is hungry,” Rohan remarked, taking the babe from Wilder. “Are you, my sweet boy?” The child immediately quieted, as if he recognized his father’s voice. He carried the little one back to Gray—who quickly brought the babe in close to nurse.

“It’s late,” Wilder mentioned. Turning his attention to the boys, he asked, “How about I get you two back home for the night?”

“Yesss,”Auggie cried, a little too emphatically. He hopped up and was out the door before Wilder and Lake could say their goodbyes.
