Wilder met Avery’s gaze, a smile on his face. “The new house is going to take at least six months, if not longer. So we’ll be in the apartment. You okay with that?”

“Am I okay with that?” Avery scoffed. “I get to spend the next six months with my alpha and not in a prison cell. I amverymuch okay with that.”

A guard arrived with cuffs for Avery.

“Is that truly necessary?” Wilder barked.

“They found him guilty. We have to process him, get his ankle monitor set, and then deliver him to his home,” the guard said. “And yes, the cuffs are part of the deal until we deliver him there.”

“It’s okay,” Avery murmured, offering his hands. “I’ll be home soon.”

Tensen moved closer to Avery. “Do you know Wilder’s address?”

“I know where it is, but not the physical address.”

Tensen shoved paper and a pen into Wilder’s hands. “Give him the exact address he needs to put on the form. We don’t need a mistake to gunk things up.”

Wilder scribbled his address on the sheet and handed the folded paper to Avery, stealing a quick kiss before they led Avery away from him. “I’ll see you soon, my love.”

Avery smiled before being taken. Wilder watched as they disappeared.

“This is much better than the scenario I envisioned,” Tensen said before releasing a sigh.“Whew.”

“I suppose we’re focusing on Tulla’s case now?” Rohan asked.

“I think we deserve an afternoon’s break before we dive into that mess,” Tensen said, grimacing. “He still hasn’t agreed to let us represent him.”

“Maybe today’s win will change his mind,” Rohan remarked.

“A win? Our client is still guilty. I'm not sure if we can technically call it a win just because of a light sentence.”

Rohan laughed. “From that roar from the gallery, I’d call it a win.”

“I agree,” Wilder said, clutching Rohan’s shoulder. He eyed Tensen. “I have no idea how to repay you for what you’ve done.”

“Oh, my bill’s going in the mail soon,” Tensen said with a wink. A reporter arrived at his side, capturing Tensen’s attention.

“No amount of money would be enough,” Wilder said, squeezing Rohan’s shoulder. He eyed Rohan, struggling to hold back emotion. “I couldn’t ask for a better friend.”

“Bestfriend,” Rohan corrected before giving him a bear hug. He leaned back, smiling. “Go home and get ready for your omega.”

“Need us to go grocery shopping or anything?” Gray asked. “I’ve heard your pantries have cobwebs.”

“No, I can go tomorrow. Tonight, we celebrate. I’m ordering a takeout feast.” Wilder smiled, finally releasing the breath he was sure he’d been holding since Avery had been arrested. “Tonight, we celebrate.” He nodded his goodbye before turning and stalking toward the door.

Before he reached his car, microphones by the dozen were shoved in his face. “No comment,” he repeated several times as he forced himself through the crowd. Once inside the backseat, he dragged out his phone to call his favorite restaurant for a spectacular dinner… and realized he had no idea what Avery liked to eat outside a bowl of pho.

He called another number instead.

“Hey, long time, no see,” Gray said from the other end.

“What’s Avery’s favorite food?”

“Ahh… well, he’s partial to pasta. He likes a lot, really. Ummm…” Gray trailed off. “He worked at Lambeau’s while in college, and the food there is divine. He used to bring home leftovers all the time and raved. Rohan and I eat there fairly regularly.”

“I think I’ve seen the place, but I don’t know if they’d be willing to send over a celebratory meal at the last minute.”

“Hold a second,” Gray said. Wilder could hear conversation in the background. “We’ll take care of it. Brett still works there, so he has an in. Consider it Rohan’s and my treat for tonight. We’ll handleeverything.”
