Avery wrapped his arms tightly around Wilder. “Thank you.” He rolled back. “But what would your brother say about an omega doing this investigation?”

“He asked if we should wait until your trial was over before diving in again, so I think he’s fine withan omegafinishing the job they already started.”

Avery’s grin grew. It was too adorable not to kiss.

“You hungry?”

Avery nodded. “For once, I am.Voracious.I don’t think I’ve really eaten well in months.”

Wilder hadn’t eaten all that well, either. “Then let me go make dinner.”

Avery climbed out after.“Wecan make dinner.”

“Nope, no omega of mine is going to be barefoot and pregnant and in the kitchen in our house,” he declared as he drew on a pair of sweatpants. “Find yourself a seat in the living room, my darling.”

Avery chuckled behind him as Wilder walked to the kitchen. The oven was warm and ready, so after washing his hands, he slid the partially cooked lasagna in before fishing out the salads and appetizers.

“You forgot your apron.”

Wilder snagged it and a kiss before pulling it over his head. He swatted Avery’s bottom. “Put some shoes on, at least.”

“So, if I’m not barefoot, I can come in the kitchen?”

“Exactly!”

Avery laughed, slipping his feet into a pair of Wilder’s flip-flops. He scooted in the too-big shoes and wrapped his arms around Wilder from the back.“Ooooh…I love that salad.”

“Pierce said he loaded the menu with your favorites.”

“I’ve got my very favorite right here,” he said, squeezing.

Wilder turned in Avery’s arms and gave his omega a kiss before reaching for a plate and finger feeding him a bite of greens.

Avery took the bite, licking Wilder’s fingers for effect.

His cock quickened, thickening in his sweats. “If you ask me, we’re going to end up spending the next six months in bed.”

“Sounds good to me,” Avery said with a wink.

Six months later…

Avery took his first free steps outside their apartment building, without the ankle monitor, for the first time since the Tribunal. While he’d been out for monthly doctor appointments and the occasional meeting with his attorneys (at his favorite restaurants,of course), knowing he was free to come and go as he wanted brought a grand smile to his face. He lifted his face to the sun and breathed in the fresh air… though it wasn’t as sweet in the city.

Six months had seemed like a lifetime.

Wilder slid his hand into Avery’s. “Ready?”

“I was born ready.”

Wilder smiled and led him to the waiting car. He slid into the back, as did Wilder. Avery drew his satchel onto the seat beside him and clutched it close. Inside was the culmination of months and months of investigation into the embezzlement of nearly one millionrenosfrom Jaymes & Associates, as well as all the proof they needed to charge the guilty party.

The baby kicked, clearly enjoying their freedom as much as Avery did. He pressed a hand over the swell of his belly and grinned.

“Is he kicking again?” Wilder asked, before placing a palm beside Avery’s.

“Like a mule,” Avery murmured, another kick coming to his palm. He lifted his hand and moved Wilder’s over so his alpha could feel the sensations.
