Warden glanced approvingly at Avery.

Zeke Miller returned to the boardroom. “I’ve got a team on the way. They should arrive within the next ten minutes.”

“Can we be there when he’s arrested?” Avery asked.

Zeke smiled. “If you want. I’ll need someone to show us to his office, anyway.”

“I’ll be there, as well,” Wilder said.

“And me,” Vaughn said. “We’ve sensed something was wrong for years, but found nothing when we searched. I’ve been looking forward to this day for some time.”

“Wilder’s omega works here for a few weeks and stumbles right into it, hmm?” Warden said, observing Avery. “Good work.”

Avery, again, attempted not to let the praise go to his head.

It didn’t take long for the guards to arrive. Avery and Wilder led them down and then through the maze of cubicles before they stopped outside Hardwick’s office. Avery pointed at the door before noticing his old co-worker, Melvin, standing off to the side, a bemused expression on his face, waving a hello. Avery returned the greeting.

The guards paused a moment to whisper something to Zeke before rushing into action. They slipped into Gus Hardwick’s office, weapons raised, and demanded he step away from his desk. Avery observed from the door as the beta was arrested, thick shackles placed on his arms.

Avery could remember the feel of those cuffs on his wrists and never wanted to feel them again.

Hardwick’s gaze flipped to his. “You did this, didn’t you?” The guards lifted him from his office chair and pushed him toward the door. Gus fought them, refusing to take one step. “Avery’s framing me. Retribution for turning him in to the Red Guard for being a beta.”

Avery glared, their suspicions confirmed.

When the guards continued to haul him out, he added another wild claim. “He’s the guilty one… he forced me to do this.”

Avery chuckled. “That’s interesting, since the crimes began when I was still ingrade school.”

Gus growled, attempting to get out of the guards’ clutches. “I’m gonna get you, pretty boy. Trust me.”

“That’ll be difficult from prison,” Wilder replied, standing at Avery’s back.

Gus’ face turned ashen. The guards dragged him toward the elevators, leaving Avery and the rest of the party standing in the middle of a shocked accounting department. Vaughn turned to face everyone, clapping his hands for attention.

“I know it’s difficult to witness something like this. Some of you might need a moment. Please take a break to collect yourself before getting back to work. Nothing changes. You’re still responsible for your duties.” Vaughn eyed the team. “My team and I will remain downstairs until a new Director of Accounting is hired.”

“You need any help?” Avery asked Vaughn as the accounting department headed out for a break. “I can stay and do whatever you need me to do.”

Vaughn laughed. “Today’s your first day of freedom. I think we’ve taken enough of your time. Go spend it with your alpha. I’ve got my team ready to get this place shipshape.”

Avery squeezed Vaughn’s arm. Wilder’s brother had spent hours reviewing data with him in the apartment and, along with Rohan’s help, assisted in writing up the package he’d handed the PSA. Vaughn differed from Wilder, very much so, but he was a good guy under the devilish exterior.

“Thanks,” Avery said.

“Thank you,” Vaughn said. “Wilder, take your omega out and celebrate, why dontcha?”

“Already on the agenda,” Wilder replied. He smiled down at Avery. “Ready to go?”

“I am.”

They marched to the elevator bank, hand in hand, though what Avery was doing was less march and more waddle those days. When they arrived inside an elevator, Avery knocked Wilder’s hand away from the lobby button and hit the button for the top floor.

“Leave something behind?”

“Nope,” Avery said. “But I think I’m ready for round two in the little conference room.”

One of Wilder’s brows rose. “Someone might overhear us.”
