Page 21 of His Reluctant Omega

Lust wasn’t exactly the right word for what he felt, though. He’d lusted before. What man hadn’t occasionally? Of course, he’d sated that lust, sharing the bed of a handsome beta or two. What he felt for Abe was more than simple lust. He felt a bond that was unnatural.

One he should only feel for an omega.

Hisomega.

Wilder feared crossing the line could take him on a journey he’d surely regret. Taking a step back, he attempted to gain control. “I need to get those presents.”

Abe nodded, silent… but Wilder sensed there was something the man wanted to say.

He stood frozen, unable to walk away. Locking gazes with Abe, he suffered the pull he always did with the man.

A car pulled into the drive just outside the open door, breaking the spell.

“Presents?” Abe asked, his voice cracking. He cast his gaze to the ground, red filling the side of his face.

“Yeah,” Wilder murmured before dragging himself away. He smiled and nodded to the set of parents heading toward the front door with two little ones in tow. Another car pulled into the drive as he opened his trunk.

He glanced up at the door, seeing Abe holding Silver in his arms, and his gut clenched. The thought of seeing his own child in the beta’s arms screamed in his veins… which was absolutely impossible.

Yet it didn’t stop him from wanting it, regardless.

I’m insane. No beta’s giving me a baby… not that I even want one. What in the hell am I thinking? For fuck’s sake… Get your head on straight!

Abe’s stare met his, and conscious thought fled him.

All that was left waswant.

Avery welcomedthe newcomers to the party, forcing a smile to his face. His errant glance was pulled over and over to the handsome alpha lifting presents from the trunk. Thank the gods he was on the scent blockers and meds to hold back his heats, illegal or not. Even with them, he suffered the intense attraction to Wilder.

Not just a simple attraction.

A yearning to kneel before his alpha and beg to be claimed.

He’d sensed that desire for four years, and it was wearing on him. Edges frayed, he grew weaker and weaker. The desire built each time they were in the same room.

The minute Wilder opened the front door with a babe in his arms, it had caused Avery’s womb to clench. The furtive glances from the alpha hadn’t helped, as they were filled with as much heat and want that churned deep in his gut. Wilder seemed to sense the truth somehow. The alpha was drawn to him, regardless of the drugs he took to mask who and what he was. It was clear as day. All he had to do was stop taking them and tell Wilder the truth—and his world would change.

Only, he didn’t want it to change. Not when he was so close to proving himself to the entire world. He was mere weeks for graduating and completing something important.

“Welcome!” Gray said as he strode into the foyer. “I thought I heard voices out here.”

His uncle greeted the new arrivals and directed them back to the sunroom before sidling up to Avery. “There’s my little man,” he said before taking Silver into his arms. “We’ve got a party to start, and we need our other birthday boy. Avery can’t keep you all to himself.”

“Abe,” Avery reminded his uncle before his stare diverted toward Wilder once again. He couldn’t stop sneaking peeks of the gorgeous man. Dragging it away, he looked to his uncle. “I hear you already slipped up and told Wilder my name?”

Gray sighed. “Wilder has overheard it a few times at this point.” His uncle eyed him. “I’ve repeatedly told him it was your middle name, and you didn’t like using it.” Gray paused. “I don’t know that he buys it, though.”

Avery looked outside again, watching as Wilder stalked back toward them. The alpha was pure, raw man in every sense of the word, from the top of his dark blond hair to the tips of his toes. Muscle bunched and flexed under the man’s clothes, giving away hints of what he might look like naked.

How many times had Avery imagined Wilder like that, writhing above him in the dark of night? Just because the drugs saved him from heats didn’t mean it took his libido away. He desired the man… or was it simply the deeply rooted, innate draw of two mates?

Gray moved closer before whispering, “Stop staring. He’s not for you…Abe.”

“I never said he was,” Avery snapped seconds before Wilder reentered.

The alpha stared between them for a moment, but that stare lingered on Avery far too long before he headed back toward the party.
