“Do you have anyone in IT that you trust explicitly?” Avery asked. “We need to nail down this log-in without the employee finding out about the investigation.”

“Let me sort that out,” Vaughn said. “I’ll sniff out someone we can trust. Let’s get a detailed list of each instance of a manual journal entry without invoice before we bring in IT.”

“Do you want me to switch over to that or continue going through the vendor list?” Avery asked.

“Finish the vendor list. Then we know which companies we need to focus on,” Vaughn answered. “How many more do we have?”

“I’m not sure how far you got on the back end,” Avery replied.

“I only went through the last twenty or so.”

Avery sighed inwardly. “Then we still have a couple of hundred to go.”

“Let’s get on it then,” Vaughn said, snapping his fingers. “Time is of the essence. I’ll continue from my end and meet you in the middle.”

Some middle.I’m already three-quarters done.“Sure thing.”

Wilder lingered after Vaughn exited. “I’ve got a few things to wrap up, but I can jump in and help after the end of business. If you need me to.”

Avery glanced up, avoiding looking at the alpha directly. “That would be great.”

Wilder smiled, both of his dimples showing, and the glory of it caused Avery’s womb to clench.Stop that right now, Mister. No more looking that fucking good when I’m struggling to survive over here.

“I’ll buy dinner, hmm? Can’t have my guy working all night with no sustenance.”

My guy.Avery closed his eyes a second or two, trying to gather his wits about him.No more. Can’t you be mean to me? Make me hate you instead of wanting to jump your bones?“That would be… great.” No way was he eating anything. An omega didn’t eat much more than a weak broth during a heat.

“Pizza? Or tacos?”

“Big spender,” Avery murmured.

“Not to your liking?”

“How about pho?” Avery countered. He had little appetite, but the broth would be good.

“Soup?” Wilder shrugged, grinning. “If that’s what you want, that’s what you get.”

“That’s what I want,” Avery replied.

“Your wish is my command,” Wilder murmured, holding Avery’s stare.

Stop it. Stop this shit right now.

Too bad his body wasn’t listening to him. It was calling Wilder’s name, begging the alpha to come closer.

“I better get on this list,” Avery spat, dragging his gaze from Wilder.

“Yeah. Sure. I need to finish a few things on my desk before I can help.” Wilder paused before exiting the door. “I don’t think I’ve said thank you yet. For what you’re helping us do.”

“Don’t thank me until we catch whoever’s doing this.”

“I mean… weknowwho’s likely doing it.”

Avery nodded. “Yeah, but until we can absolutely prove it, I’m not using any name. I don’t want that coloring my investigation.”

“Smart,” Wilder said, grinning. “I think I’m amazed at just how brilliant you are every single day.”

Stop being so fucking nice!
