Sam nodded her head in agreement. “Even our own team freaked the fuck out when they first found out. They told us it was wrong.” She rolled her eyes. “As if I would listen to them when they were fucking four guys at the same time.” Noting my wince, she added, “Sorry.”

“Does it really not bother you?” Lilly asked.

I shrugged. “I’m not one to judge who you can and can’t love. I mean, people fall in love all the time. Why can’t you be in love with two people at the same time? It’s not as if a widower is only ever going to love her deceased husband, though that may be the case. No, the most likely scenario is that she will fall in love again. Does that mean she doesn’t love her old husband? Not at all. She would probably always love him. Her heart just expanded to make room for her new husband.”

Sam and Lilly exchanged another one of those looks, the type of look you could only have when you innately understood your partner. It was Sam who spoke next, thin lips curving into a wicked smile.

“I would keep that in mind, Ms. Adelaide. Sometimes it’s important to follow your own advice.”

I smiled back at her, though I honestly had no idea what she was talking about. That wasn’t necessarily a surprise.

I tended to get confused a lot.
