Somebody handed me a glass of water, and I glanced up, shocked, to see the manicured hand belonging to Elena.

“What was that?” Fallon crossed his big arms over his chest; his expression was impassive as always, but I saw the slightest tightening of his eyes.

“A panic attack,” I said. “But I’m fine now.”

They still didn’t look as if they believed me, so I offered another timid smile.

“Seriously. I promise.”

“The girl says she’s fine!” said Sam, clapping her hands together. “You guys all need to stop crowding her.”

Cue seven penetrating glares in her direction.

“That’s it,” Calax said suddenly, jumping to his feet. He looked enormous in the dainty living room, his body made entirely of muscles and skin. He pushed through the guys and extended a hand towards me.

I eyed it warily.

“Did you finally decide to murder me?” I asked. “Because I promise I’m not a good victim. And I don’t taste good either. I’m too skinny and white. Ryder would probably taste better, you know, with the dark meat.”

“Racist,” Ryder mumbled. I stuck my tongue out at him.

Calax rolled his eyes. “So dramatic.” Without waiting for me to retort, he grabbed my hand and tenderly pulled me to my feet. I would’ve never expected Calax to be as gentle as he was. He always touched me as if I was fine silk he longed to purchase.

“What are we doing?” Iasked. Now that my initial panic had ebbed, I felt slightly embarrassed by my earlier outburst.

Calax’s smile was almost devious - well, as much as my giant could be.

“We’re having a date.”

Tommy gave him a long look.

“I don’t know how comfortable I feel about that,” he said at last. “What time will you have her home? I need a location and your mother’s name.”

Ryder furrowed his brows. “You’re a strange little man.”

“Bite me, Ryley.”

“Ryley?” Ryder’s appeared even more confused, and I had to turn my face away to hide my brewing laughter.

“Ry. Ryley. Same thing.” Tommy waved his hand dismissively, and Ryder frowned.

“My name’s not Ryley. It’s Ryder.”

Now it was Tommy’s turn to look bemused.

“That’s not what Addie told me.”

The laughter I tried to keep silent bubbled out.

Fallon folded his arms over his chest, expression amused.

“What exactly did she tell you our names were?”

“Ryley, Callie, Ashley, Tammy, Rowena, Destiny, and Felicia.” He tilted his head to the side thoughtfully. “I mean, I wasn’t going to judge you or anything. You be you, man.”

The six men turned to me, expressions murderous. With a squeal, I ran from the room, laughing my ass off.
