“I’m surprised you took my lessons to heart. I don’t blame you. I don’t deserve to see the light of day.” His voice lowered with self-loathing. “But can you do me a favor?”
“What?”
I was bouncing on the balls of my feet, antsy to escape. To go to her. To cradle her beautiful face and see with my own eyes that she was alive and well.
And then, I’d hide her from the rest of the world like the selfish asshole I was.
“Make them pay.”
I smiled cruelly into the darkness. I was a sight to behold I imagined, covered in blood, sweat, and grime. A monster just waiting to be unleashed. A monster prowling the forests, hunting its prey.
“Already planning on it,” I replied darkly.
With a deep, shuddering breath, I stepped up to the door and pushed it open.
Either freedom or death awaited me. At this point, I would take either one.
