Chapter 27

Addie

It lasted only a moment. A second later, artificial lighting once more illuminated the quaint bedroom.

“Get dressed,” Calax said sharply, already depositing me on the opposite side of the bed. I nodded, not trusting myself to speak through the sudden surge of emotion. If you asked me what the emotion was, I wouldn’t be able to name it. A strange combination of fear and anger and a love so heady and encompassing I could drown in it. Swept away in a Calax wave.

We had just finished getting dressed when the bedroom door was pushed open. Two familiar figures stood in the threshold, and I immediately looked away, unnerved by their gazes.

One was Enzo. His dark hair was brushed to perfection away from his face, and he was meticulously groomed in a form-fitting suit and white cufflinks. A red tie completed the look. Beside him was the man whose name I didn’t know. The one who revealed himself to be my and Ryder’s kidnapper.

Both of them flashed me identical smiles. Identical in the fact that it made my hackles rise and blood turn cold. An almost incandescent fury burned within me, an inferno waging a war in my chest. My hands were claws by my sides, and I wanted nothing more than to scratch at their smirking, cocky eyes.

Neither of them seemed shocked to find Calax in the room with me. Instead, Enzo clapped his hands together and took a step forward. Calax moved behind me, resting his hands on my waist.

“Gabriel,” he hissed at the second guy, the sound emanating from low in his throat. A growl, almost. It vibrated through me.

“Calax.” The scum of the earth nodded at my fiancé, lips twitching as he fought to hold back a smile. “I see you moved up in life.” His gaze flickered around the room before resting pointedly on me. His eyes landed on my feet before slowly, languidly, moving upwards. The asshole paid extra attention to my breasts before finally making eye-contact.

Calax vibrated with barely contained fury. He sort of reminded me of a can of pop after you shook it, waiting for the inevitable explosion once you opened it.

“You done now?” I drawled, trying to show both Calax and this Gabriel Anus Hole that I wasn’t bothered. On the contrary, I was. I wasextremelybothered. The man, the stranger, looked at me as if he had every right to. As if my body was for his eyes and his eyes alone. It was that sort of delusional mentality that saw rapists being acquitted for their crimes.

“We have places to be, people to see. Let’s go, sweet Adelaide,” Enzo cooed in a sing-song voice.

“I’m coming with her,” Calax responded darkly. One glance over my shoulder showed his face just as dark. Livid. Shadows haunted his eyes, shadows our love-making hadn’t entirely been able to displace.

Something clicked then. An ah-hah moment that made me feel like an idiot for not noticing sooner.

When Gabriel and Enzo turned back into the hall, I stood on my tiptoes and pressed my lips to Calax’s ear.

“Is that the asshole who hurt you?” I whispered, not fully recognizing my own voice. He didn’t have to say anything for me to know, for me to be certain. At this point, I couldn’t demarcate where he ended and I began. I wanted to say we were two peas in a pod...but that was unsexy as fuck. To put it simply, we understood each other better. When our bodies joined, the last barrier between us had collapsed. It solidified our bond in a way no one could understand. Hell, I wouldn’t be able to articulate it even if I tried.

So I knew exactly what Gabriel Anus Hole had done to him. I could sense Calax’s embarrassment and guilt. Resentment. Fear. Anger.

I was fucking livid.

Before Calax could stop me, I jumped on Gabriel, clinging to him like a spider monkey. This time, Iwasable to claw at his eyes with my fingernails. He let out a curse, twisting this way and that in an attempt to dislodge my body from his. Instead of helping, Enzo threw back his head in laughter.

Laugh it up, bitch. I’m coming for you next.

Honestly, I was a little terrified of my own thoughts.

I put pressure on his windpipe with my arm, as Fallon and Tamson had taught me, and his hands came up to claw at my skin.

“You hurt Calax?” I screamed in his ear. “Ikillyou.”

Yup. Totally not a psychopath.

“Baby,” Calax said softly, but he sounded amused. And a little turned on, if I was being honest. Still, when his hands gently grabbed my waist, pulling me off the Anus, I came willingly, purring like a contented cat.

Gabriel fell to the ground, eyes wild. Enzo continued to laugh, and I struggled against Calax’s strong arms, determined to get to my next victim.

I should open up a new business: Dicks Be Gone.

The goal? Cutting off the dicks of rapists, murderers, and kidnappers.

I could probably get a few posters made…
