After all my time in the cell, I was used to confined spaces. At first, it had freaked me out, not being afforded much room to move or the freedom to leave whenever I pleased. So I understood their apprehension. But this gas thing was new to me. We had to get out of here and into the fresh air.

Hunter raised his spear and stabbed it in the wall.

Rumbles traveled along the tunnels, and dust sprinkled us. Everyone froze, glancing around.

“You fool,” Axe cried, slapping Hunter on the back of the head. “These tunnels are old and frail. Don’t give them a reason to collapse on our heads!”

“Sorry,” mumbled Hunter, yanking his spear out of the wall. “I’m just jumpy.”

Groans reverberated back from the tunnel’s depths. More dust peppered us as the walls shook. My heart lurched as I stumbled against the wall, clutching the rock to hold me upright.

“What the fuck’s happening?” Flare shouted.

“Earthquake,” Phantom replied, seizing my upper arm, pulling me close.

Did I mention how much I loved his protective instincts? I always felt safe around him…and Shadow…hell, even Flare.

“Which way?” Hunter shrieked.

“I don’t know!” Axe shouted.

Damn it.All this indecision was going to get us killed. Fuck, if it wasn’t killer crows, it was deadly tunnels. Then paid soldiers of fortune.Sea God!Could we please get a break?

“Take the left,” Grimm ordered.

“Are you sure?” Hunter asked.

“Just fucking move,” Flare yelled.

I felt the air suck away as the crowd shoved forward.

Phantom tugged at me to move.

The murmurs increased in volume and the shakes in magnitude. Pebbles tumbled down the wall, a few hitting me on the head and back, and dust smothered my hair and clothes. I coughed as a cloud of dirt fanned all around us, leaving me blinder than a bat. Something thumped behind me, and I hurried my pace.Fuck. I think the whole tunnel is collapsing.Damn me and my stupid idea.

I tried to hold that one positive thought of clinging to Phantom amongst the chaos crumbling around us.

Rocks crashed beside us, and someone screamed.

“My leg!” Teeny.

Flipping hell.No.This was the last thing we needed.

“Teeny!” I shrieked, slipping free of Shadow, battling to get through the crowd. “Where are you?”

“Here,” he called.

I followed his voice to the left.

My boot hit something, and I lurched forward, falling on top of someone.

“Snow,” Teeny growled in my ear. “Get off me.”

“Sorry,” I said, groping in the dark, finding his knee, his ankle, and a rock wedged on his boot. “Shit. What did you do to yourself?”

“Pissed off the dwarf god,” he joked, always trying to keep the mood light.

I tried to budge the rock, but it was damn heavy. “Shadow? Phantom? Flare? Can you help get this rock off Teeny?”
