“They tried to kill Snow,” Phantom added.

If it weren’t for Phantom, I might have been dead. I wanted to hold him, tell him how thankful I was, but my mouth seemed welded shut.

Teeny spoke up and circled his finger in the air. “Take them back for questioning.”

Hunter bound Shadow with rope and dragged him away. Axe and Mama Jo tossed rope over Flare and secured his legs, and all four of them lifted him to one of the waiting steeds. Sunlight streaming through the canopy of leaves glinted off the panthers’ collars, reminding me of the evil magic trapped within them.

Worry captured Phantom’s brow. “It’s not good, is it?” he said, his body shaking.

“Don’t say that,” I said, cradling his head and wiping the cold sweat from his brow with the bottom of my wrist.

Based on the amount of blood he’d lost, his paling skin, and the shaking, he appeared to be going into shock. All my instincts told me we might not make it back to the healers in time to save him.
