Phantom glanced at Shadow in a way that said he’d noticed the interaction.

“Her skin is warming, too,” Shadow announced.

Fantastic news. But my stomach cramped as if I’d eaten a bad batch of apples.Sea God.The irony! In the scheme of things, I supposed I had.

“How did you three get in here?” Grimm’s voice overshadowed the others.

More movement returned to my limbs, allowing me to lift my neck a little. Lines rife with worry cut into the dwarf’s forehead.

“Busted down the door,” Flare admitted.

Sea God!What other damage had he done?

“The guards let me out to help the affected,” Shadow admitted.

Phantom confirmed the same thing.

“And you came straight to Snow?” Grimm’s voice was husky with despair.

What was he saying? That they didn’t care for the others? Had the situation been reversed, they would have been the first I’d have run to, too. A pleasant warmth trickled through my chest, sparking my heart, making my pulse elevate. I guessed it was time to admit that our feelings for each other ran deeper than I’d imagined.

“I assume she ate the poisoned pie, too?” Grimm asked, rubbing his forehead.

“Yes,” Shadow said. “But she can move now.”

Grimm examined me with apprehensive eyes, and I lifted an arm slightly to jab a finger in the air.

“How?” he asked, his face a stunned mask. “None of the others can move.”

“Kisssss,” I said, my voice crackling. My vocal chords were dry.

“What an earth is she on about?” Grimm asked.

Phantom picked up my hand and scrutinized it. “After I kissed her hands, she twitched.”

“What are you saying?” Shadow asked. “You’ve got some sort of magical kiss that nulled the poison?”

Flare put a hand on Phantom’s shoulder. “Your kissispretty magical, babe. Last night’s kiss launched me to the moon.”

Phantom chuckled and brushed away Flare’s hand. “Get off, you dog!”

“Dog?” Flare cried.

Inside, I was laughing, glad for a little reprieve from my worries and from the burden weighing down on the resistance.

Grimm cut their jokes short. “Do you think you could try kissing a few of the resistance members?”

Phantom’s forehead wrinkled, and he glanced at me, as if asking for my permission. “I’ll give it a try.”

“On Mama Jo?” Flare joked.

Grimm gave him a withering stare.

“That’s insensitive,” Flare said. “It was meant to lighten the mood.”

That was as close as anyone would get to Flare apologizing.Wow.Tides were turning, and we were witnessing this whole other side to him.

Phantom punched Flare in the arm as he followed Grimm out.
