She fit in on Earth, and I wondered what life she was building for herself. Would she be happy if she could escape the six-month curse?

She broke the silence, lowering the mug from her red lips. “You can’t keep running away from how you feel about her.” She wrapped both hands around the mug.

Fuck.I’d known this was going to come at one point or another. My ex was trying to set me up with the next one.

“And howdoI feel about her?” I asked with a shrug, offering her my best pensive expression.

“Don’t be an ass,” she retorted. “You’re trying to deny what you feel for her, and what she means to you. You can’t keep doing that. Not without paying the price, and to be honest, I don’t think you can afford to not have her in your life.”

“Don’t talk in riddles,” I snapped, hating when she spoke that way. But I understood what she’d said about paying the price. All arrows pointed to X.

And she was right too. Persephone always knew what she was talking about. Even when I didn’t like to admit it.
