Chapter 13

Dušan

It has been three sex-induced glorious days since I first claimed Meira. Her heat is explosive, and she’s on me the moment I join her in my room. But there’s still no sign of the wolf emerging. It should have done so by now. She’s in heat, her body preparing for motherhood… but I have no idea if she can even carry children with her sickness—with the wolf still inside her.

Her scent still teases my nostrils. Sweet honey and roses, with a hint of cinnamon, which is her wolf. I recognize her smell anywhere now as it’s blended into my senses. So are the sounds she makes with her arousal, which sing in my thoughts.

She affects me so much that now her absence seeps through me, a constant calling to my wolf.

I’ve marked her as my own, claimed her temporarily. Until her wolf unleashes, our connection will never be fully merged.

Bardhyl joins me in my office and slumps into the seat across from my desk. A new scratch down his cheek blushes red. “Found a girl, just barely. Fucking rogue wolves are desperate out there for a female. I had to fight two to get this girl. She’s twenty and is coming into her heat. So it’s perfect.”

“You did fantastically. We need her in a quick mating ceremony in front of Alphas to make sure none of them are her fated mate before we send her to the X-Clan.”

Bardhyl dusts his hands for show. “Done. She’s ready to go.”

I nod my head. “I’m impressed. Okay, arrange delivery in two days’ time. She’ll need a wash, feeding, new clothes, and the lowdown on where she’s going.” I reach into my top drawer to collect my tablet.

“On it. You're calling Ander?”

“Going to do this now, then Mad and Caspian can get their asses back home.”

Bardhyl’s upper lip curls into a sneer at their names.

I speak before he does. “I know what you’re going to say, but Mad was appointed by our father before he passed.”

“So? Fuck him and—”

“And what? Throw Mad out to the infected? You know I won’t do that.”

“Just so you know, if he does anything wrong on this trip to ruin our trading relationship, I’ll put him in his place. I’ve had enough of his shit. You know before he left, the jerk changed all the locks on the sheds with a new password? It took us days to unlock them to reach our weapons.”

I huffed and shook my head. Mad is a prankster, but it doesn’t make him malicious. He grew up with the same father as me, given the same beatings. We had different mothers, but they had no power over the previous Alpha of Ash Wolves. We all deal with the shit from our past differently.

I hit the call button on the video chat and sit back in my seat as Bardhyl leaves my office.

“Dušan.” Ander greets me. His dark hair sits messily around his face. He’s not wearing a shirt, and in the background is a kitchen. I must have caught him off guard.

“Ander,” I answer, raking a hand through my hair. “I wanted to provide you with a brief update on the Omega. Is now a good time?” Tension flares across my shoulders that he won’t accept a new girl over Meira.

A female’s voice murmurs in the background of the video.

“No, stay,” Ander insists, turning to look at someone at his side. “Please,” he says softly.

The gentler side of Ander surprises me, as I’ve never seen him this way during any of our dealings. He’s always in control, as any Alpha should be.

When he looks at me, I raise a brow out of pure understanding that only a female could soften an Alpha’s heart. “Don’t start,” he mutters to me, then he refocuses on someone out of sight, stretching his arm out for them.

I can’t help but grin at him, well aware that as much as Alphas try to hold these positions of power, we can all have our moments of weakness as well.

My gaze turns to a woman stepping into view. Her auburn hair, still wet, is draped over her shoulder. The dress she wears hangs loosely over her small frame. When she looks at me, all I see are blue piercing eyes. She’s gorgeous.

“This is the Shadowlands’ Sector Alpha,” Ander says, drawing the woman into his lap. “Dušan, this is my Katriana.”

It’s good to see Ander has found his Omega… Seeing them together brings back memories of Meira and me last night. With it comes my rampant heart beating excitedly to visit her again, to take her to my bed every night until her wolf breaks free.

“Lovely to make your acquaintance, Katriana.”
