Page 6 of Make Me Love You

She snorts and leans on the table, resting her pointed little chin in her hand. “Yeah. Well, apparently I’m faking it pretty good because I’m actually a mess. This was my first date in years and we didn’t even make it beyond the first drink.”

“Well, you do put off a bit of a vibe.”

She shoots me a narrow-eyed stare. “A vibe?”

“Yeah. A don’t fuck with me because I will kick your ass vibe.” I hold up my hand when she starts to open up her mouth to blast me. “Don’t get me wrong, I like it. But it can be a little intimidating for a guy who isn’t as confident as me.”

“You mean arrogant, conceited.”

“Potato potahto.”

“I think my description is more accurate.”

“Don’t you want to know how you can fix that vibe?”

She leans back and nods her head at me cheekily. “Enlighten me, oh wise one!”

“You need to get laid. You’ve got a lot of pent-up aggression right now.”

Her pretty mouth falls open and she glares at me like she’s fixing to sock me. Once again I feel my cock twitching in my jeans. I’ve never met a woman that turns me on so much just glaring at me.

“I suppose you’re volunteering for the job.”

I chuckle. “I wouldn’t say no to it.”

She stands and tries to make her way out of the booth in the other direction. I grab her arm and frown when a sizzle of heat burns my fingers where I touch her. Like static electricity but stronger, wilder.

I drop her arm. “Don’t go. I just thought maybe you’d like to have some fun. It doesn’t have to be sex. I’m not gonna turn you down if you say yes. But I just…I don’t know.” I’m at a loss. I don’t know how to explain the urge I have to be with her, any way I can. I can’t explain something to her that I can’t explain to myself.

She stands but stops to look down at me. Her gorgeous eyes are strained, confused and I think she felt that sizzle too. “I’ll think about what you said. I’m sure you don’t have an altruistic bone in your body. But I think I can resist any moves you make. I need to think about this.”

And with one more confused look she gathers her things and walks out the door. And my night feels sadly flat as soon as she walks away. The firecracker really made my night. I don’t know why or how. But I hope she comes back. I need to see her again even though she just left.

I run my hand through my hair and walk back to my office, needing a moment to myself. I’ve never felt so attracted to a woman. And maybe I shouldn’t want to see her again. She’s not my type after all.

But dammit! I feel more alive around her than I’ve felt for years. Maybe I just need to get laid too.
