“We can use their blood for a more accurate location,” Dimitri said.

“Let me handle these two wolves, Dax. I need the release.” Thomas growled.

“I will go with Thomas,” Remi stated.

“Let them get to work on that while we bring our true Alpha up to speed about everything,” Max said.

“I have spoken with Maeze, and from her information about this Aeron, we can come up with both defensive and offensive plans.”

“I will work with Dali and figure where the weak points will be and who else will be there we have to protect,” Max stated.

“Agreed.”Both Dax and I said at the same time. It felt natural, but it was entirely a new feeling for me. There was no hesitation in coming to this decision with my Mate, and it felt as though we were one.

The speed and decisiveness of this Pack stunned even me. I wasn’t sure how so many Alphas could work this closely together, but it seemed like they had all of it down to a science. The Beta Dimitri didn’t seem so Beta-like with his skill, power and abilities that aren’t normal in most wolves. My opinion was taken with no question. Let me know why the True Alpha trusted this family to deal with an enemy of this nature. I didn’t know what was happening, but I got some information about Quinn familiar to me. His scent and how all the Rayne brothers carried themselves in his name told me they respected him and his judgments.

“Maeze, tell us everything you know about this rogue, please.” I hadn’t noticed when Dax made a call or heard him talking on the phone. I still felt out of sorts coming back into the world like this, but everything snapped back into place when I heard his voice. I felt the command in his voice and heard the tone of patience, but with power. All of that was through the phone. He sounded so much like all the True Alphas that came before him. I instantly knew that he was the reason I came back. Quinn’s coming into his power and the world going to battle ticked off the boxes that marked me returning to help him through the coming fights.

“When I was first taken, it happened at night, and it happened on a full moon. That is why I didn’t understand why we were attacking the Rayne Pack last night. I just knew it would happen when he used my blood as a conduit for the demon. I believed he was using the full moon’s magic, but I could have been wrong, and it was just another ploy. I knew he did not have any knowledge of my powers, so I didn’t fight it. Part of my role in a Pack is to care for the members of the Pack, and I could not leave the ones who truly did not belong with Aeron. The male wolves who didn’t join him or serve him were killed. The ones who just wanted to hurt others or believed in his lies went along with anything. When I was with them, I noticed that the Alpha’s who joined the Pack started to disappear. It didn’t happen all at once, but it was often enough others started to talk.”

“What do you think was happening to them?” Dax asked, leaning forward. I wasn’t sure, but I had to tell each of them what I thought. My eyes moved to Devana and Dali as they shared a look at each other. Devana turned back, holding up a hand with a look of disgust on her face.

“There is only one reason they would go missing at this point. Maeze, did he make everyone drink his blood?” Devana asked. All eyes focused on me, maybe thinking I had ingested that foul shit, but that did not happen.

“The only ones he had to drink his blood were the Alphas and the Betas. They would keep everyone else in line. It also lets the others see what powers they could look forward to if they only follow him as the True Alpha. I can say that he does have an army even with Alpha’s disappearing. It was north of two hundred, but I think it has been cut in half after last night.” I growled. I squeezed my fisted hand in my lap, trying to erase the horrors of what he did to the Alphas that fought back. I wanted to unsee the atrocities Aeron committed to the wolves that were changed, to the pups and females that couldn’t defend themselves.

“The Alpha’s that disappear are being used for power. A sacrifice to the demon to keep the strength he was given.” Devana said, shaking her head. I could see the frustration written on everyone’s faces, but what could they have done. No one knew this was happening.

“From what I know about demons, the more they kill, the more power they gain. So I take it the demon is also devouring the souls of these wolves.” Quinn growled.

“Exactly, and we should have seen this coming…we should’ve…” Devana broke off when Dax put his hand up.

“None of us saw this happening. There has been so much crazy shit happening the demon knew the perfect time to start this up.” He said, leaning back in his chair.

“Maeze, you did everything that you could without a Pack to have your back. If I had known you were out there, I would have come to find you. I didn’t have a father to tell me about things like this. With your knowledge and guidance, I hope to bring our species together and form a stronger nation. Dax, to accomplish this, we have to end this rogue and destroy this demon.”

“We got this, Alpha. You came to me, and I told you that we would handle it.”

“I do not doubt that one bit,” Quinn stated. I kind of tuned out and thinking about the words Quinn spoke. It had me needing to know what happened while I was gone. What the hell went on that his father couldn’t prepare him for the responsibility of being what he was destined to become. Either way, I knew where I belonged, and the feeling of peace and home were at my fingertips. Before I went off to join this new True Alpha, I also knew that I would help Dax and his Pack put down this rogue and free the other prisoners if we weren’t too late.

“Quinn! Is everything good?” I heard the alarm in Dax’s voice bring me back to the conversation.

“Shit! I don’t know. Finish this Dax. I would be there to help if we didn’t have shit to hold down over here. I trust you to get this done. I know for sure all of you will bring that rogue down.” The line disconnected, and we looked around at each other.

“He’s right. He gave us this responsibility, so we need to take care of it. At least they will try to warn the Hunters if possible, but after that abrupt ending to the call, it seems like they got some other shit going on. It doesn’t matter because we got this.” Dax wrapped his knuckles on the table and stood. I felt the tension, anger and excitement in the air as we all stood to prepare for a fight we all will die from or come out with the head of this possessed wolf who thinks he is a True Alpha.

AERON

I was already on my fifth Alpha before the rage in my blood cooled enough for me to think straight. The demon was silent, but I knew that shit wouldn’t last too much longer.

“She isn’t dead! Peter and the rest of them haven’t made it back with her body or Dax’s body!”

“Your weakness is what sets ussss back!”I snarled as I ripped through another wolf that was closest to me. I threw the empty shell of the wolf into the fire with the rest.

“I am not weak,Abadozui, nor have I ever been weak! I am the True Alpha!” I roared. I knew my wolves were eyeing me in fear, and that was good for them. They should feel fear and remember who their leader is! They need to remember who their God is!

“You will do well to remember who gave you this power, Aeron. You were nothing when I found you, and you can be again if you don’t fix the mess your people created. You chose that Warlock’s Circle. All I asked was for the eyesss. Sooo closse to everything you want, but…”
