Sullivan stopped short. He turned but the woman wasn’t looking at him. She was digging in her bag. She sensed his stare and glanced up. Her expression was completely blank and innocent. “What?”

He shook his head. “Nothing.”

Sullivan started walking home, suddenly aware that every person in his life was in a relationship.

Everyone except him.
