“What are you looking for?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” He continued searching, lifting, moving. “There are no wounds.”

“No wounds?” I asked in shock.

He looked at me. “None.”

I joined him in his search, the slightest bit of hope coursing through me.

We picked up her legs, her arms, looked at her stomach, her back, ran our fingers through her hair.

Nothing.

“What does this mean?” Enzo asked.

“Could be a spell or poison.” Gage said.

“She does like her poisons.” Garrison chimed in.

“Would Snow have drank it?” Enzo asked.

I opened Snow’s mouth and nothing showed she had ingested any type of poison.

“Well?” Enzo asked, looking over my shoulder.

“The most common poisons have distinct smells… almonds, oranges, and some have a metallic smell.”

“Metallic smells?” Gage asked.

He shot a glance at Garrison and Barrett, like he was having some sort of conversation with them that no one else could hear.

“Is there something you want to share with the rest of us?” I pried. Part of me had always suspected that Gage and Barrett could communicate telepathically, but I never pushed it.

He looked at me, startled.

“You look like you have an idea.” I tried to recant, not wanting to distract from Snow.

He nodded.

“Right… Can you smell something on her?”

He shook his head. “No, but this…” he pointed to the bracelet on her wrist. “That is new.” He looked at Garrison.

“He’s right. She didn’t have that on this morning.”

Enzo reached for it, but I held my hand out to stop him.

“What are you doing?” He barked.

“If it’s laced with poison, it could kill you, too!”

He took a step back and sighed in frustration.

“Fine. But get it off her!”

Dresden came running into the living room a minute later. “Here. Here, use these.” He said, thrusting a pair of pliers and tongs into the middle of the group.

I looked at Gage, who snatched both of the items and handed one to me. “You got this?” He asked.
