“I will clean that. I promise. I didn’t know.”

“Get her out of my room right now!” Gage warned as the vein near his temple was pulsing.

“Let’s go. Let’s go.” The man with purple hair said, standing up pushing the other’s back. I hopped out of bed and nearly crumbled to the ground as the pain shot through my feet. I hadn’t noticed before, perhaps because I was too tired or they were too numb.

The man with soft eyes and the one with purple hair rushed to my side and helped me up. “Let’s get you downstairs and I will look at your feet.” He smiled. “My name’s Jace.”

“Nice to meet you, Jace.”

“I’m Enzo.” The purple-haired man said.

“Nice to meet you Enzo. I love your hair.”

He blushed before chuckling. “She likes my hair.” He looked over his shoulder. “Did you hear that, Gage? She likes my hair and not your gigantic cock!”

“Enzo.” Jace reprimanded.

“Oh. Right. Sorry.”

I chuckled. “It’s fine.”

They helped me onto the couch while the others stayed on the stairs with their mouths dropped open.

“You stay right here.” Jace said. “I’m going to go change.” He looked at Enzo and added. “We are going to go change and then we’ll be right back down.”

“I don’t think I could run away right now if I wanted to.” I said the words then mentally slapped myself in the face. Why did I just admit to a house of very large, muscular strangers that I was pretty much unable to run away if I wanted? I tried to remember where I had left my bow, but was so delirious with exhaustion I didn’t remember much that had happened after my horse found me.

“You don’t want to leave?” Enzo asked, obviously only hearing what he wanted. He was jumping up and down so much his towel came loose, but he grabbed it at the last second.

“We’ll be right back.” Jace said, patting the air as he walked back up the stairs with Enzo bouncing behind him.

The others had led Enzo and Jace up the stairs, and it was now quiet. I heard some excited or not so excited whispers on the platform above, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying. I looked around and everything slowly started coming back to me from earlier. The stew, the bed.

A few minutes later, the light brown man Enzo had spoken to earlier came down the stairs. He cast a sympathetic glance at me before turning his back and stirring the stew. A few seconds later, he turned around and looked at me. “My name’s Calix.”

I smiled. “Hi Calix. I’m-” I laughed, embarrassed. “You already know who I am.”

“The mystery girl who wandered into our place of all places.” Another man said. He was darker than Calix, and his eyes held a beautiful golden tone to them. “My name’s Gideon.”

“Gideon questions everything, so take nothing he says personal.” Calix smiled.

Enzo was hopping back down the stairs and plopped on the couch right beside me, slinking his arm around my shoulders. “She’s off limits, boys. Barrett’s orders.”

“I think he was just talking to you.” Calix laughed, taking a sip of his stew.

“No.” Enzo’s brow furrowed, like someone had punched him in the gut.

Jace walked down next with a bag in his hand.

Enzo leaned over. “Jace gets off on this stuff.”

“What stuff?”

“Helping people.”

“I’ve saved your ass quite a few times, and it didn’t seem to bother you then.”

Enzo rolled his eyes, making me laugh. He definitely seemed to be the liveliest one of the bunch and if I had to guess the one who was always getting into trouble.
