“After dinner,” she said, putting her leg down as if she’d push to a standing position.“We can come back here, and I’ll boss you around.Deal?”

He put his hand under her elbow and helped her stand. She tried a bit of weight on her left toes, and it wasn’t terribly painful.Of course, she couldn’t really feel her left ankle at all right now.

Her stomach swooped, and that could’ve been from the pills or the oh-so-nearness of the hardworking, handsome, helpful Harrison Tate.

He swept her into his arms a moment later, sending her adrenaline to the back of her throat. He looked at her, his head only six or eight inches from hers now.

“Deal,” he said, but those dark, delicious eyes said so much more.

She watched him round the hood, feeling very much like she’d just been rescued by Prince Charming, and she smiled as he got behind the wheel and flashed her that royal grin.“Good?”

“So good,” she said, almost giddy for the evening ahead. She’d told no one about her trip today—besides Conrad, and he wouldn’t expect her to detail for him all the menial tasks she’d gotten done at the house that day—and the thought of this secret meal with Harrison only added to the excitement coursing through her.
