Jack furrowed his brows, not having an iota of an idea what his friend meant. Adela bit her bottom lip to hide her cheeky smile. “I think you’re right.”

Reed grabbed the last palm tree frond to weave for their second hut. “I’m always right, sis.”

“Sis?” Camilla said with an amused smile.

“Yeah. Reed baptized me as his little sister in the ocean yesterday.”

Dominic snorted. “If I didn’t see these damn huts with my own eyes, I would have thought you guys were having the times of your lives over here…”

Adela's face fell as she narrowed her brown eyes at Dominic. The intense anger behind her glare surprised Jack.

“He meant nothing by it, sis.”

Apparently, Reed also noticed the change in Adela.

“I don’t appreciate him coming back after two days, throwing his weight around like we’ve been slacking, that’s all.”

Jack’s mouth fell slack, as he hadn’t seen this prickly side to Adela before. Dominic must have really struck a nerve with his remark.

“Adi, I’m sure—” Jack started, but Adela already stomped off to the hut they’d slept in yesterday. Camilla followed Adela after throwing Dominic an angry look.

Reed laughed. “You’re sleeping in the doghouse tonight, Dom!”

“Shut the fuck up.” Dominic placed another piece of wood into the fire, clearly not bothered by the idea. Jack guessed that Dominic would have no qualms about hauling Camilla over his shoulder if he had to.

“You’d better talk to Adi, Dom. I’m not taking it kindly that you’ve upset my girl,” Jack said.

Dominic pulled a brow. “Your girl, eh?”

“That’s right. And one other thing… Adi is right about you coming back, slinging your dick around like you’re the top dog. We’re all in this together and I would appreciate it if you’d turn back the asshole-switch—just a notch.”

“Amen,” Zane said.

Dominic took his friends in as he leaned back in the sand. “Sure. Whatever. I’m not trying to make things awkward between any of us. Maybe tomorrow we can set up an extra camp on a beach nearby, so we have a spot to cool off when people get on each other’s nerves?”

“That’s a great idea, but I’m not doing that tomorrow,” Reed said.

“Why?” Dominic sighed while pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger.

“Because tomorrow, I’m having a fishing competition with my sis.”

“Why are you calling her your sister? It’s weird as fuck,” Dominic said.

“I don’t care what you think, asshole. I never had any family apart from you dorks, and she grew on me. So get your arrogant ass out of my business.”

Dominic held up both hands. “Okay, okay. I’m sorry. I may have been a bit…”

“Of an ass?” Zane said with a smug smile.

“I would say full on, but I guess you’re right. Sorry, guys.”

“Just talk to her tomorrow, okay?” Jack said to Dominic.

“I will.”

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Adela openedher eyes in the dark. She’d tried to get some sleep, but unlike last night in Jack’s arms, she hadn’t slept for a second tonight.
