I holster my pistol as the door opens and a smiling Alex stares down at me. His floppy brown hair falls in his bright amber eyes. I forgot how freaking tall he is, and he definitely buffed up since I saw him last, but he’s still the same Saint-looking, sarcastic asshole he’s always been. “Baby Royal! It’s been a minute.”

He wraps me up in his arms and I roll my eyes. “Don’t act like we’re friends right now, Alex. You have my girl and I want her back.”

“Why do I feel like we’re missing something here?” Mav says, scratching the back of his head.

“You never did beat around the bush, baby Royal, but that is a request I gotta deny. I already told Lincoln. But don’t let this be a wasted trip, come on in. I can show you your girl is in good shape and being treated like a queen.”

I look at him skeptically, though I don’t miss the glare Lincoln is shooting us both. Alex links his arm through mine and pulls me forward through a web of halls until we reach an open space.

“V?” Indi squeals, running over to me from where she was sitting in a chair under a blanket, squeezing me so tight my ribs ache. “You’re okay, thank fucking Christ. What happened? Who had you?”

“Are you okay?” I ask, and she nods as she pulls back.

“I could be worse,” she says, lifting her casted arm. I glare at Alex. “Pissed off at being here, but Alex isn’t the worst, I guess.” The guy in question barks out a laugh.

“You’re starting to like me. Don’t deny it, Indigo.”

“What the fuck did you do to her?” I growl at Alex, and he holds his hands up in the air.

“Wasn’t me, sweetcheeks. That was my guys. Once I knew she was your girl, I got her looked at and fixed up.”

“He’s telling the truth,” Indi says, glaring at him, but there’s something in her eyes…

Does she like him?

I shake my head, that is so not relevant right now. I turn back to face Alex, folding my arms across my chest. “What is it going to take to get you to let her go home with me?”

“Come on, Octavia,” Alex groans. “Don’t make me be a hard ass. You know I don’t like it.”

“Can one of you fill the rest of us in on just why it is you’re so chill?” Maverick pipes up. I glance over at him, he looks about as happy as Lincoln does. Finn has his typical poker face on, but I don’t miss the tightening of his jaw.

“Daddy Royal and I were tight while he was on tour. So baby Royal and I hung out a bit while you lot were running around with the Knights,” Alex says shrugging, before dropping into one of the comfy-looking chairs across the room.

“I’m taking her home with me, Alex. I don’t care what your deal is with the Kings. She’s mine.”

He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees, hands clasped. “You don’t really have much sway here, V.”

I really didn’t want to do this. I tried to be nice. “Don’t make me talk about Colorado.”

His eyebrows rise in shock as he blows out a breath. “How do you know about Colorado?”

“What the fuck happened in Colorado?” Lincoln asks, while the others stay quiet, watching with an intense fascination.

“Nothing,” Alex says before cursing under his breath. He looks over at Indi and something passes between them. “If you want to go, then go. But, V, Colorado stays buried in the past, you understand?”

I nod. “I was happy to leave it buried. You’re the one who told me I didn’t have much sway.”

“Yeah, well, I didn’t realize you knew so much.”

“Next time, don’t underestimate me.”

He shakes his head, before leaning back in his chair. “Well this was fun, but you guys should leave. I need to work out what else the Donovans covet enough to pay their debt.”

“You’re not going to hurt them, right?” Indi asks him, and he softens.

I have no idea what happened here between them during the last however long, but I get the feeling there is more to this story, too. Trying to block out the waves of rage coming from my guys, I stay focused on Indi and Alex.

He looks almost conflicted. “I’m not going to make promises I can’t keep. But maybe talk some sense into Ryker and we can keep the peace.”
