I barely recognize my mother.

Letting out a sigh, I put everything back in the folder Bentley brought to me and tuck it away. Maybe she is dead, maybe Edward killed her and my dad, just like Panda said, but I still have zero proof of anything.

Giving up I pull out my phone and send a message to Lincoln. Maybe he can get some answers I can’t. Or maybe Harrison will tell him the truth of what happened to my father.

I would just like to put my nightmares to rest, even if the truth isn’t what I want to hear.

Because when it comes down to choosing whether your dad killing himself or being murdered is a better outcome, life is already all kinds of fucked up.

“Are you nervous? I’m nervous. We have nothing to be nervous about right?” Indi’s mindless babble as we head to Ryker’s in the Wrangler does nothing but make me smile.

“I mean, if assface back there can get a tattoo, I can. Right?”

“Don’t you start with me, Pixie Spice.” Mav grins and I pinch the bridge of my nose. These two in a small enclosed space might not be the best, even if it is funny watching them bicker like an old married couple.

“Don’t call me Pixie Spice, dick for brains.”

He grins at me in the rearview. “It’s good dick though.”

I don’t bother containing my snicker.

“So good she laughs about it,” Indi snarks with an eye roll before winking at me. I love how far she’s come. From cowering to him, to enjoying sniping at him. “We’re here.”

She pulls the car to the curb and shuts off the engine, bouncing from the car when Ryker appears in the doorway of the house.

“Princess,” Maverick says, touching the top of my arm, making me pause. “You sure you’re good with this?”

He makes my heart burst, I swear to God.

“I’m good. I won’t let what happened hold me back. Plus you’re here too. I know you’ve got me if I need a minute.”

He watches me intently before nodding and climbing from the car. I follow suit, taking his hand as I close the door to the Wrangler and head toward where Indi is waiting with Ryker. Dylan appears behind them, all smiles. “Glad to see you two joining the party today.”

I wave at him with a soft smile, Mav heading inside with him and Ryker, while Indi holds back, waiting for me. “Ready?”

I grin at her. “Are you?” She pulls me into the house and we head down into the basement, following the guys. Mav looks back, as if making sure I’m still here, as he talks up a storm with Dylan.

“I’m a little nervous, but yes. I asked Dylan to be here, to help keep the peace. Ellis will call Ryker on his shit, but that usually turns into a whole twin thing. Whereas Dylan has zero issues with your guys.”

“That’s some diplomacy skills at work, my friend.”

Ryker pops his head out of one of the three doors that lead to smaller rooms in the basement, gaze searching for Indi. “You ready?”

She takes a deep breath and nods. We head into the well-lit room which looks like a mini tattoo studio.

“Huh, this looks…” I trail off as she grins at me.

“Painting on skin isn’t something I fuck around with,” Ryker grunts. “It’s too easy to get infected or fuck shit up. So this place is all coded and set up the same way any professional shop is. This is just easier, and more fun for me.”

The wicked smile that graces his lips practically drips with sin as his eyes dance with mischief.

“Who’s going first?”

Indi pops her ass into the chair and wiggles around until she’s sitting in it properly. “Me.”

“I redrew your arrows, because I’m not putting someone else's design on your skin,” he tells her, and she rolls her eyes at him.
