Yet when they started to move again, my eyes rolled back in my head, a shudder of pure ecstasy rocking through me. They were gentle this time, fucking me together. My mind blanked out as I was pulled into a fog of sensation and nothing else. My world was centered around this pack and how they made me feel—wanted, strong, safe…loved. Knowing they were standing strong behind me made the future a whole lot less terrifying.

ChapterFourteen

Levi

Farren looked understandably skeptical when Lucius tried to shove another concoction at her. This one was an electric blue with shocks of silver marbled through it. If nothing else, at least they were fun to look at.

“This one is aimed to do what?” she asked, then she sniffed it and shrank back with a look of pure disgust on her beautiful face.

‘I don’t trust this man,’Cadmus piped in.

‘We have no choice,’I reminded my dragon soul.‘He’s trying to help.’

‘It won’t work. This is magical warfare, not simple memory loss,’he argued, as he’d relentlessly been doing for days.‘Plus, he’s crazier than any professor I’ve seen. Has he even had proper schooling?’

‘The university screens their faculty,’I answered, amused by how much he disliked this man. I tuned back into reality just in time for the professor to raise his eyebrow at her distrust.

“Restore your memory, of course. Isn’t that the goal?” he asked. It sounded surprisingly snarky, though I didn’t think he meant it that way. The man was just confused as to why we’d question him. For whatever reason, he didn’t understand why we’d be skeptical about him handing random potions to our pregnant mate.

“Right…” She sighed before slamming it back like it was a shot of whiskey. Kane was there immediately, pressing a glass of juice into her hand to counteract the taste, and she chugged that right after.

We all stared at her as her face twisted with a troubled expression.

“Farren, are you okay?” Niko worried as his hand went to her arm.

“No, something feels funny. I can feel it bubbling along my mind, and it’s like it’s filling in some of the empty spaces of my magic, but the babies feel heavie—ahhhh!” She let out a screech and grabbed her stomach. “Get me to the cabin. They’re coming!”

“Fuck, it threw her into labor or egg laying or whatever the fuck we call it!” Kane gasped as he scooped her up and ran for the back hall. We were out of the door and trudging through the snow before we could process the fact that the babies were coming.Now.

She released another screeching wail, and suddenly, we were flanked by dragons on all sides, the entire brood following our steps.

“Is she hurt?” someone asked before Alice laughed.

“No, she’s having the babies,” she announced. “Everyone back off! We’ll keep watch on the queen.”

It was a brilliant sight watching a brood of dragons separate and transform, becoming a rainbow of scales and talons, ready to defend their queen. Someone roared in warning, the sound deep and terrifying in contrast to the warmth of the afternoon sun.

Kane froze then. “This is what Quinn saw. The dragons in the mountains, defending their queen. Does that mean he’s coming?”

“No,” Niko said firmly. “The vision has changed.” Then he turned to the dragons. “No one crosses this threshold but us. Not even West!”

There was a huff of acceptance from the closest dragon, then another screech from Farren had us moving again. Avi handled the door while Kane took her inside. I ran ahead to her nest to ensure the window was closed and everything was perfect. He laid her down, and we pulled off the jeans and panties she was wearing. The moment her lower body was bare, she stood up and crouched down, an alpha holding her up using each arm.

‘They’re coming,’Cadmus said. His awe rocked through me, mixing with my own excitement. I doubted they were the first dragons to be born in the last fifteen or so years, but these dragonlings represented hope for our people. No more hiding, and definitely no more fear. At least not once we ended the last threat to our kind.

“Levi,” she begged through another pain-filled scream. Assuming she needed me to help her through this, I moved in front of her just as an opalescent purple egg started to drop. It was both horrifying and beautiful, much like any birth, I’d assume. With one more breath and a push, the egg dropped. It was slippery enough that it nearly slid from my hands, but Avi was there as backup.

She had a moment to breathe while Avi took the egg from me. He already had a towel in hand, so he cleaned it off before nestling it among the thick plush blankets to keep it warm.

“Is labor supposed to be this easy?” Kane asked stupidly. We all gaped at him when she turned feral, snarling at her mate with the anger of all mothers that had come before her.

“You think this is fucking easy?” she yelled, but the sound was distorted into a wail when the second egg came. Her face was twisted in a feral scowl, but despite that, she was dangerously beautiful in that moment.

I knew what to expect now, so I managed to hold on to it a bit easier this time, repeating the handoff to Avi before I used the extra towels to clean her up.

“Any more, love?” I asked. She shook her head, then her skin went ghostly pale before her body started to shake. “She’s going into shock.”

The alphas laid her down and got her covered while I finished cleaning her up. Avi was ready with fresh towels, rags, and a bowl of warm water. It might have been less messy than human birth, but it was no less terrifying.
