“I don’t know yet,” I admit, “but I’m going to start locking my fucking windows.”
They laugh, and I can’t help but join in and add, “Can you believe she was trapped in there for hours, stuck under my bed just waiting for me to fall asleep?”
“She must have been scared out of her mind,” Nikolai says, and I swear I can hear a little bit of admiration in his tone. “Most people wouldn’t have been able to remain so calm and keep hidden, let alone manage to still sneak out.”
“Well next time I see the little stalker, I’ll be sure and pass on your praise,” I say, making him laugh again when he sees how pissed I’m getting again.
He gives me a friendly smack on the back. “You have to admit, it’s kind of flattering in a crazy, unhinged sort of way.”
I watch his eyes widen as he stares past me. Leaning in, he says, “Go easy on her, Dima. She cares about you. I can tell.”
Following his gaze, my jaw clenches tightly when I see Gina walking through the door. She comes toward us, and even though she looks scared to death, she keeps walking closer, and I can’t help but admire the hell out of her for it. I’m still pissed about being spied on, though.
When she’s close enough, I step toward her, making her stop short and almost fall into me. I quirk an eyebrow at her, daring her to touch me. She wisely lowers her arms and manages to find her balance.
“You have some nerve showing up here, Belova,” I say, crossing my arms across my chest and looking down at her.
She lifts her face up to meet my eyes, and again I’m struck by how beautiful she is and how much I want her. Even now, even after all this, all I can think about is getting inside her.
“We need to talk.”
The defiant tone in her voice is doing nothing to calm my cock down.
“You bet your ass we do.”
Reaching down, I grab her wrist and pull her after me as I head for my apartment. Nikolai yells after me in Russian, reminding me to not be too hard on her. Oh, I’m fucking hard all right, I want to yell back, and very soon going to be all over her.
Chapter5
Gina
Ihave to run to keep up with Dmitri’s large steps. It’s obvious he’s pissed about me breaking in, which I totally get, but dragging me around like a disobedient toddler seems a bit excessive. I’m not about to tell him that, though.
When he’s opened his door and pulled me in, he lets go of me and just stares at me. His face is tense with anger, and I’m briefly worried he might end up with a massive stress headache with how tightly he’s clenching his jaw. There’s a vein in his neck that I swear I can see throbbing, and his nostrils are flaring slightly with each breath he’s taking.
Okay, so definitely angry.
“I’m sorry,” I say, trying to calm him down. “I shouldn’t have broken in. I know it was wrong, and I’m sorry.”
His blue eyes bore into mine. He makes no attempt to even acknowledge that I’ve said anything. I back up slowly until my ass hits the back of his couch and I can’t go anywhere else. Fair or not, his silence is starting to piss me off.
“Look, you can stop trying to be so damn intimidating. I said I was sorry. It won’t happen again.”
He takes a step toward me and says, “Trying?”
Seeing all that muscle and how angry he is, I can see that he has a point. Dmitri doesn’t need to try to look intimidating. He just is.
“Whatever,” I say, hoping I look more confident than I feel. “You don’t scare me.” I raise my chin, meeting his intense stare. “You should be thanking me, I think.”
His eyes widen slightly as if I’ve lost my fucking mind. Maybe I have.
“From where I’m standing, it looks like I just saved your ass.”
I was wrong before when I thought he looked angry.Nowhe looks angry, really fucking angry. It makes the Dmitri from thirty seconds ago look downright cuddly.
I feel my temper starting to rise, and I try to tamp it down, I really, really do, but it’s too much, and soon I break beneath the weight of it.
Pointing a finger at him, I yell, “I’ve had just about enough of your cold, distant attitude. You’ve been a complete ass to me! Yeah, I broke into your place, and I shouldn’t have, but if you hadn’t been such a dick to me at your club, then it never would’ve happened.”
