I laugh and typeYou have no idea. Prepare yourself, Belova. If you come over tomorrow, you’ll see just how possessive I can be.

I’m definitely coming over tomorrow. I’d drive over there now if you’d stop being so stubborn and let me.

I smile and take another drink. I’m going to enjoy fucking the feistiness right out of her. She’s not going to have the strength to lift her head by the time I’m done with her.

Get some sleep. You’re going to need it.

You too,she types, which really makes me laugh.

You’ll never be able to wear me out, wicked girl, but I look forward to you trying.

My cock gives a healthy jump when I read her next text.

I always did like a challenge, Dmitri. I’ll see you tomorrow. Night. ;)

Night, Belova,I type, setting my phone aside with a frustrated sigh.

I finish my drink and look at my watch. God, it’s not even ten o’clock, and I swear the second hand is going even slower than usual. I just need to make it to tomorrow night. And if she doesn’t show up? I push the thought, and the immediate pain it causes, straight from my mind. It’s a good thing I ordered a few more punching bags, because I have a feeling I’ll be spending all day tomorrow punching the living hell out of one of them.

Chapter7

Gina

As soon as I open the door, I hear my Dad’s voice calling from the kitchen.

“It’s about damn time, Gina. Get your ass in here!”

I cringe and kick my shoes off. He’d warned me earlier at the police station that we weren’t finished, but I was really hoping he would be asleep so that I could avoid this conversation.

With a sigh, I walk into the kitchen to see my dad sitting at the table with leftover apple pie and a big glass of whiskey. Mixing sweets and alcohol—this is not a good sign. I try to mentally prepare myself and take a seat across from him. He slides the pie tin my way and hands me the extra fork that’s already there waiting for me. I get a forkful of pie, because why the hell not, and wait for the storm to hit. It doesn’t take long.

“I’m trying my damnedest to remain calm,” he says, taking a drink of whiskey. “I hope you keep that in mind.”

I nod my head to let him know I’m listening and waiting. See, I can be good and compliant. Dmitri would be so shocked if he could see. An image of Dmitri’s beautiful face pops in my mind, and I immediately push it away. I can’t think about him in front of my dad, at least not now, not after everything we did today.

“Why were you at Dmitri Volkov’s apartment?”

“I was just curious, Dad. It was a really stupid thing to do, and trust me when I say I learned my lesson.”

I’m aiming for remorseful with a hint of naiveté. His glower tells me I’ve failed on both counts.

“Okay,” I say, pointing my fork at him. “I was thinking about learning to box, you know, for self-defense reasons, and I went up to him and asked him if I could get some lessons at his club. He laughed at me and said he didn’t want to have anything to do with the police chief’s daughter, so I got mad and broke in.” I wiggle my fork at him. “So, thanks for that. Now I’m going to have to find someplace else for lessons.”

I try to hide my shock when he actually seems to buy this bullshit story I’ve pulled out of thin air.

“He’s dangerous, and I want you to stay away from him.”

“Why do you hate him so much?”

My dad takes another drink of whiskey and narrows his eyes at me. “Because I know he’s dirty. I know he’s doing all kinds of illegal shit. I just can’t prove it yet.” He points his glass at me and adds, “I will, though. One day, I’m going to get that bastard.”

Wanting to dial down the tension, I say, “Is Mom at work?”

He snorts, letting me know he knows exactly what I’m doing, and says, “Yeah, and she’s not thrilled about this either, so prepare yourself for another talk about this.”

“Can’t wait,” I say, getting another bite of pie. “I’m seriously not going to do anything so stupid again, Dad. This is the first blip on a spotless record, even you can admit that.”

“First big blip,” he clarifies, “and that’s what worries me.” He joins me in the pie tin, stabbing a big piece with his fork, but before eating it, he says, “Be careful, Gina. He’s dangerous.”
