Anton turns to follow Aleksei, but stops after a few steps. “Is Gina okay?”

I sigh and rub a hand over my neck, suddenly feeling more tired than I’ve ever been. “Yeah, she’s okay, I think. Bruises on her arms and a sore tailbone because the bastard pushed her on the ground.”

Anton gives a small shake of his head. “She is a tough girl, Dima. She’ll be fine, and you’re going to make him pay. That’s all that matters.”

He’s off walking to the car before I can respond. Nikolai is already behind the wheel of my car, so I get in the passenger seat and turn to him. He’s waiting, looking at me as only someone who’s known you your whole life can.

“I’m fine,” I tell him.

He studies me for a second and then starts to smile.

“Yeah, yeah, you don’t have to gloat.”

“I do a little bit.” He laughs and puts the car in reverse, backing us out of the parking lot. “I’m also excited about that giant bonus you’re going to give me from the winnings.”

I shake my head and laugh. He’ll get his bonus. He’s certainly earned it, and I don’t give a rat’s ass about the money. All I care about is making Liam pay. The drive doesn’t take long and soon we’re pulling into the Red Wolf. It looks even more impressive than usual after seeing the Irish club.

After Nikolai parks and turns off the car, he waits a second before saying. “Don’t do anything stupid, Dima.”

I look over at him, but he’s not looking at me. He’s staring out the window in front of him, hands resting on the steering wheel.

“I’m not going to try and find Liam, if that’s what you mean.”

He sighs and taps his thumb against the wheel. “It’s not, and you know it. Don’t run from this.”

I turn and look out my window, not wanting to have this conversation. I’ve been avoiding thinking about all of this on any sort of deep level, and I sure don’t want to open everything up and dissect it right now.

“Stop worrying, Kolya.” I reach across and give his arm a half-hearted punch. “Who knew you were such a fucking softie? You better not let that get out. It’ll ruin your reputation, and then you’ll never get that hot virgin you’re dying to find.”

He laughs and opens the car door. “True enough, Dima. Women love a badass.”

I follow him into the club, grateful that he’s willing to drop the subject of Gina and all the fears that are swimming around inside my head. Unfortunately, my reprieve doesn’t last long. As soon as I step into the Red Wolf, I see Gina sitting in a chair by the stairs that lead up to my apartment, and the sight of her stops me dead in my tracks.

Chapter13

Gina

To say Dima looks shocked to see me would be the understatement of the year. He’d been so upset when he came to talk to me at work, and there was no way I was going to be able to relax until I saw him again with my own eyes. Now that I’m seeing him, though, I don’t feel any better. There’s a haunted look about him, and he looks a lot closer to the Dima I first met instead of the one I’ve gotten to know so well. A sinking feeling hits my gut, but I shake it off and give him a big smile when he walks over to me.

There’s still a dark shadow hanging over him, but when he gives me a smile, I feel the tension in my body start to loosen. When he’s close enough, he cups my face and runs his blue eyes over me before tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear.

“Let’s go upstairs.”

I give a slight nod and follow him up to his apartment. Finding myself at the absolute bottom of the patience barrel, I can’t help but ask, “What happened with the Irish? Is everything okay?”

He shuts the door and walks into the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of vodka from the freezer and a glass from the cabinet before pouring himself a healthy drink.

“It went fine,” he finally says, raising the glass to his lips and downing it in one gulp. He looks at me, and I’m relieved to see his eyes soften a bit. “Don’t worry, Gina. I did not kill anyone.”

I let out an exaggerated sigh and swipe a hand across my forehead. “Well, that’s a relief.”

Unable to tolerate the distance between us any longer, I walk over to him and wrap my arms around his waist, snuggling my body in close to his and resting the side of my face against his chest. The steady beat of his heart instantly comforts me, and I let out the breath I hadn’t realized I was holding when he wraps his strong arms around me and kisses the top of my head.

“They won’t hurt you again,” he murmurs against my hair.

“I know they won’t. You have to stop worrying about me.” I lift my head so I can see him. The worry and pain in his eyes threatens to undo me. “I know you will always protect me, Dima. I’m not worried, and you shouldn’t be either.”

I trail a finger down his scar before sliding my hands behind his neck to pull him closer. As soon as our lips touch, I feel the pressure around my heart lessen. All the worry and stress melts away right along with the pain from my aching tailbone and bruised arms. None of it matters now. I feel the length of Dima’s cock harden against me as he deepens the kiss.
