“Almost done?” Parker’s voice called out as he re-entered the make-shift tattoo parlor.

“Finished!” the younger girl trilled, her nerves evident in her voice. Parker leaned over Paige’s leg.

“Wow, that’s amazing. You’re really good!” he exclaimed, looking at the intricate swirling patterns covering Paige’s foot.

“Really? Thanks! I could, you know, give you one, if you want. I’d be really fast. It would look great, um, on your arm, if you wanted,” the girl said quickly, flirtily flicking her hair behind her shoulder. Paige chuckled and stood up, yanking her sandal on over the henna.

“No thanks, we wouldn’t wanna miss the next band, and then we gotta hit the road,” Paige said, grabbing Parker by the shoulders and gently shoving him back outside. Once he was out of earshot, she took out the money she owed the girl and bent towards her. “I promise, I won’t let any other girl scoop him up. But you, killer, are gonna break some hearts,” she assured the girl, and winked before following after Parker.

“What was that about?” he asked, glancing behind them. Paige surprised him by wrapping her arms around one of his and pressing herself against his side.

“Just being girls. She was a sweetheart,” was all she said.

They rocked out for a couple more hours, but when they realized most of the people around them were either hammered or high and everyone else had left, they decided to head out. Paige danced along the dirt road as they headed to the now empty parking lot. The Beast sat alone in the middle of the field.

“That was such a good idea,” Parker breathed, his hands laced together on top of his head. Paige nodded, a couple steps ahead of him, twisting her hips around as they made their way over the trampled brown grass.

“It really was. Just what I needed, I think, after ... everything today. And after the past couple weeks, too. We got too domesticated in Galveston,” she joked.

“What do you mean?” he asked and she shrugged, turning sideways and doing a grapevine. He lengthened his stride and caught up with her.

“I don’t know. Doing random stuff like this, and all those rodeos we saw, and camping in Mississippi. Fun,” she said, turning so she was skipping backwards. He smirked and put his hands on her hips.

“Galveston wasn’t so lame,” he told her and she shrugged again.

“No, I loved it. But this is fun, too,” she replied. He pulled her hips against his, leaning down to her ear.

“I can think of a couple fun things we did in Galveston,” he whispered. She stopped moving around and shivered.

“Well, yeah, of course,” was all she said. He leaned back and lifted a hand to her face. Loose strands from her ponytail were always making their way across her eyes and forehead. He brushed them out of the way.

He moved forward and kissed her, keeping a hand on the back of her head. She clutched his shirt in both hands, leaning close to him. It felt like forever since the last time their mouths had touched.

Kissing Parker was always a novel experience. He filled her senses, took her over, made it hard for her to think straight. Made it hard to think, period. There had been a couple “fun things” they had done in Galveston – she thought maybe it was time to revisit them. Replace those awkward, angry moments from earlier with fun, tantalizing moments right now.

“Come here,” she said softly, walking backwards and pulling him with her till they were up against the car. He kissed her again while she fumbled around behind her for the door handle. She finally gripped it.

“What are you doing?” he laughed as she struggled to open the door from behind her back. She stepped out of the way, yanking the door open wide.

“Getting in the car. C’mon,” she urged, crawling inside. He slid in next to her and she started crawling over the seatback, eventually falling into back seat.

“Paige,” Parker laughed, twisting around to look at her. She leaned close and wrapped her arms around his neck.

“C’mon,” she repeated, kissing him and roughly pulling him backwards. He struggled, half of him hanging over the back of his seat, and he pulled away a little.

“This car isn’t exactly a king size bed,” he joked, but she just made a face and pulled harder on his t-shirt. He slid face first onto the back seat and barely had time to right himself before she was straddling his lap.

“Who cares?” was her only response before she started kissing him. He rested his hands on her hips, happy to comply. But when she started pulling at his shirt, he put his hands over hers.

“Paige, do you really wanna do this in my car?” he asked in a low voice. She laughed.

“Are you kidding?” she replied, managing to wiggle a hand free. She worked it under the fabric.

“We’re out in the middle of a field, anyone could walk by,” he pointed out. She rolled her eyes.

“Are you scared, Parker? Never done it in your car?” she teased, playfully biting him on his neck. He struggled to keep a hold on her remaining hand.

“What? No, I’m not scared.”
