“Plus, remember that other surprise we have,” Embry continued.

Puzzled, I wasn’t sure what it could be, but just then multiple cars pulled up to the house at one time and her comment was forgotten for a few minutes as a parade of men exited their vehicles. I am sure some curtains were pulled back a hair in multiple houses on our street, trying to get a peek at all the tall, dark and handsome eye candy, strutting up to our house.

But my eyes were glued to the only one that was headed right for me. And with no care in the world to everyone around, as soon as he reached me, he gently pulled me close and planted a kiss on my lips.

“Not again!” Embry screamed, covering her eyes dramatically.

My mouth left Gyth’s and I couldn’t help but laugh at her shenanigans. But my eyes must have registered the pain it caused when I chuckled because Gyth put his arm around me and told everyone we needed to get inside so I could sit.

“Wait, what about Auntie Alley’s surprise?” Embry asked, worried we would leave without her getting to hand that out.

Alley, clearly confused on why she would be getting something, stood there looking baffled. Again, with my curiosity piqued, I told everyone I was fine and to let Embry finish. All smiles, the little angel ran to their car and pulled out a bat with a big red bow on it.

Carefully walking with it to Alley, she hands it to her. “This is for you. I thought it was so you could play baseball, but Daddy said that you have much better use for it and you should have two now instead of just one, that way there is one by each door in the house.”

Oh my God, it may have hurt like hell but there was no stopping the gut-busting laughter that came from deep in my belly erupting out of me full force, like fire spitting out of a live volcano. So many different tones of joy spilled from the mouths of each of the people around me and I looked around taking it all in. My besties, the kids, Gyth, Braxton, Kace, and Landon had all come. Even Gemma had snuck up on the group at some point.

“I love it!” I heard Alley say, from behind me. Turning toward her, I smiled.

“Thank God you are not afraid to use it,” I said to her. Everyone got real quiet for a minute, but I didn’t want them walking on eggshells around me.

I wanted to live and be happy.

“Oh, come on guys, let's go in the house and eat. It is what we are good at when we are all together,” I said, looking at the group, and getting a bunch of nods in agreement. Then my guy put his arm around me once again to lead me in the house. I glanced around once more before heading in and smiled.

My gang was all around me. My family was here. And I loved them all.

Chapter Forty-Five

Gyth

Keepinga secret from Summer for the last two weeks was damn hard.

But they were the good kind of secrets and ones that I hoped she would be happy to embrace.

I’d been planning something special with the help of our clan and the time had finally come.

Back in December when I said I was waging a war to make Summer mine, I felt like the battle was over and victory was in sight.

Summer had been mine since the second I met her and looked into those sparkling green eyes, but I wanted to take it to the next level.

Would she say yes?

Epilogue

Summer

Two Weeks Later

Everyone was acting weird.

Jurnee and Baxton were having one of their famous get-togethers with the group. Most of the time we would all bring stuff, but while everyone was talking about it, they would clam up when I was around, insisting that I just needed to relax while I finished getting better.

I was feeling pretty good, except for the strange vibe radiating off everyone when they were around me. Maybe they were just worried about what happened and then me getting sick again, but everyone just needed to chill out. Maybe after today, they would see I was good and things would finally get back to normal.

Especially with my guy. He seemed on edge lately and I couldn’t quite figure it out. The big burly guy was still sweet on me when I was around him, which was often, but something was bubbling underneath the surface of that tough, badass personality of his.

Gyth and the guys had to go toNo Surrender today to go over some stuff for a new client, so I had spent the morning being lazy at home while Alley went to deal with some book stuff, and then once she got home, we got ready and rode over together.
