Dropping to his knees beside me, he opened his mouth and said the last thing I had expected. “I happen to love your ass just the way it is, and my hands miss those sweet globes.”

My mouth dropped open in shock. What the fuck universe am I in?

Landon and I did not say things like that to one another anymore, hadn't for a few years now. Shit, he and I barely talked and tolerated one another only for our friend’s sake. Or maybe we had just been hiding from our true feelings?

“You can’t say stuff like that to me and you cannotbe here.” God, the man needed to leave. When I first opened the door and got a glimpse of him, I had been instantly transported back in time for a second, before getting hit in the head.

A second was all I needed as I looked up at him hovering over me as I sat on the floor and flashes of the very first night I had met Landon when he opened the door to me at his home on that sad, dark night, at twelve years old and in need of my friend. His sister. But what I got was him as well.

I just didn’t get to keep him.

Back then, Landon was more reserved and preppy looking, hence my calling him Pretty Boy all the time. But even so, he was fucking handsome back when I first met him and was off the charts even better looking now as a grown man, especially with him letting his blonde hair grow out a bit and his stubble on his face. He was more muscular and had filled out, was smart, and even funny at times, which people wouldn’t imagine. And one other thing, he was a phenomenal artist. That’s the secret talent he kept under lock and key.

But why the hell was I sitting there and reminiscing about the past, let alone practically drooling over the man staring at me, with a smirk on his face?

“I know that look,” he said in a husky tone.

I gulped in a deep breath to gain my composure, before unleashing my anger and frustration. More at myself for all the thoughts running rapidly through my head, but at him too for putting me in this position that brought them on.

“You don’t know shit, now move so I can get the hell up!” I yelled. I may just need to get the hell out of dodge too. Good thing I was leaving for the book signing in a week.

Rising to his feet, he backed up with his hands in the air like he was surrendering, but the damn smirk was still in place. Oh my, his smile and his eyes that twinkled like bright blue glass when he did, might just have me caving and asking for another kiss.

It was time to get away from him and secure my sanity that was waning right then. Jumping up, I walked back to the door and grabbed it, motioning with my other hand for him to go. The little shit just stood there.

“I am not leaving, Alley. It is time for us to have a serious talk. One that is long overdue, just like the one I just had with your brother.”

Wait, back the hell up. He went and talked to Braxton? I mean, they had been friends a long time, and when I asked him to keep secrets it wasn’t fair. But shit, I was full of them too. Also from my brother and my best friends. A pang of guilt hit me, just as it had done so many times before when I thought about how much I had not been honest about. I guess after the confrontation at Braxton’s house, I shouldn’t be too surprised that more would come from it and those two would end up talking.

I was doing my damndest not to ask what was said but was curious.

“I know that look too,” he told me. “I can see the wheels spinning and curiosity running through that beautiful head of yours.”

“You—” the sound of a knock on the open door stopped me from finishing what I was about to say.

Turning, I saw a young dude looking a little uncomfortable with a huge bouquet of flowers in his hand. He must have caught some of Landon and my conversation as he approached.Well, it is a preview of messy relationships buddy. You are welcome.

Not that Landon and I had a relationship anymore.

“I am looking for Alley Hart,” the kid asked in a wavering voice.

Frowning at first, because who the hell would be sending me flowers, I didn’t know, I didn’t answer him right off.

“I’ll take those,” Landon said with a growl, approaching the guy at the door.

That snapped me out of it, and I stepped in front of him. Who did he think he was, coming into my house and acting all macho?

“I’m Alley Hart, I will take them,” I said sweetly to the poor delivery boy, as I slightly turned and glared at Landon over my shoulder. He didn’t look happy himself, he looked pissed, but he would have to get over it.

Turning back, I extended my hands for the flowers and the guy handed them to me. “Let me just grab my purse and give you a tip.”

“No, it’s okay,” the kid said before swiveling around and practically running off the porch and down the steps to his white delivery van.

Wow, we certainly scared the crap out of him, I thought, watching him go. Then a hand in front of my face, plunking the card out of the middle of the flowers, grabbed my attention and the kid was long forgotten.

“Hey, that is mine!” I screeched. I wasn’t sure I wanted it, in fact, I had a bad feeling, but I was tired of Landon going into protective mode after so long. First at his sister’s engagement party a few weeks ago and again now.

“Who the fuck is sending you flowers, Alley?” he growled again.
