This, of course, also came from Alley. The woman was crazy.

Everyone lost it in a fit of laughter. Myself included.

“You look gorgeous, but you’re always that,” Summer said, bringing tears to my eyes.

It was no secret now that Landon, Alley’s husband, was helping me with a divorce and my husband was a mean man. I shared a little with them at lunch recently and although it wasn’t everything, it was more than I ever thought I would tell.

Or have anyone to tell it to.

Not only did I have Kace, but all the ladies and their husbands too. Tears formed and pooled on my bottom lid; I tried to wave them away.

“Oh honey, don’t cry, you’re going to mess up your makeup,” Jurnee said through the phone.

I couldn’t help it, the tears spilled over. “I never thought I would have friends. And you guys are just so wonderful,” I blubbered.

“Group hug,” Alley said, as they gathered around and squeezed me tight.

Once my tears slowed, I pulled back and looked in the mirror. “Oh Summer, I’m so sorry. I messed up all your work, now look at my face.”

Black mascara spilled down my face, streaks in my foundation, running through the blush she had put on my cheeks.

“I look like a creepy clown,” I huffed out.

“Girl, I got you. No worries. I’ll have it fixed up in no time. But we could wash it all off and Kace would still think you’re the most beautiful woman in the world,” she told me.

I looked at her like she had grown two heads.

“Believe her,” Alley chimed in. “If you could see the way he looks at you when you’re not even looking, you would see what we do. Now let's get you ready for a date with your man.”

“He’s not—”

“Oh bullshit,” Alley cut me off. “He was yours the second you walked into his life, I saw it.”

“She really did,” Summer said. “When you walked in and she saw Kace looking at you, she said, ‘this shit that is going down is better than any romance novel I have ever written,’ and then she told us things were about to get really interesting.”

I was shaking my head back and forth in disbelief.

“Don’t you doubt me, lady,” Alley teased. “Now as I said before, let's get you cleaned up so you can put your man out of his misery as he waits. He’s probably pacing the floor like a caged tiger about now.”

As Summer got to work on my make-up and Alley carried on, well, being Alley, I wondered if what she said was true. I did like the sound of it.

My man.

I was havingtrouble getting my feet to move.

In front of the girls, I felt one of their hands reach out and push me lightly down the hall. It was probably a good thing or we might not have ever made it to the living room.

Kace turned as we came in, his conversation with Landon stopping instantly and he just stared at me. The look of approval gleamed in his eyes as they sparkled, but he said nothing.

“Well, I never thought I’d see the day that our very own Kace would be stunned speechless,” Alley joked as she stepped out from behind me and made her way over to her husband who was holding their little girl.

Summer gave me another little shove the rest of the way into the room as Kace’s feet moved toward me. “Here, let me take the baby,” Summer told Kace. Once she had the baby in her arms she moved away leaving me and Kace alone.

“You take my breath away,” Kace said softly.

My heart beat so hard that I thought everyone in the room had been able to hear it.
