“Sweetheart, I’m not going anywhere. I have Lyric, as well as other connections with the line of work I do and my former military days. Besides, if I needed to I could hire a private investigator. But I won’t leave you. Not now, not ever. Okay.”

“Ever?”

“Nope, I’m in for the long haul. You’re stuck with me.”

Just then, the baby started to cry. I slipped off Kace’s lap and stood to go to my sweet boy. “Being stuck with you sounds pretty damn good. I’ll be right back.”

I smirked at the way I said it and Kace caught on to the fact I was being sarcastic because a few weeks ago he said that to me and that didn’t happen. Then I fell asleep. He smiled back and I took off toward my son.

As I walked down the hall I couldn’t help but think how he felt just as much as Kace's as my own.

ChapterThirty-Three

TEAL

I couldn’t believeI was going to my first sleepover.

“You promise you will be right here the whole time? I asked Kace as we sat in the car in front of Alley’s house.

It was going to be a house full of girls, except for Denver. He was too young and I wasn’t leaving him anywhere for a whole night. But Kace said if I needed any help with him he would come in whether Alley or any of the other ladies tried to protest. He was just as protective of Denver as he was of me. It was clear he loved my son.

Like his own.

“I’ll be right out here, I promise.”

Blowing out the breath I’d been holding, I leaned over to kiss him when something dawned on me. “Wait…” I pulled back. “Where are you going to go to the bathroom?”

“Babe, I’m a guy.”

When he didn’t elaborate I realized he meant he would pee outside. “But—”

Catching on to what I was about to say, he cut in. “I’m not a caveman. For that, I will sneak inside.” Then he winked at me.

I giggled. Kace was funny and consistently made me laugh. It hadn’t started out that way and I hadn’t seen that side of him at first, but now I saw the real him every day. I loved it.

I leaned back toward him for a second time. “I’ll miss you,” I whispered, mere inches from his lips.

I wasn’t used to sleeping without him now and it had been two weeks of having him in my bed. Making love to him was magical, but just being wrapped in each other's arms was pure bliss.

“I’ll be right out front, sweetheart. You can see me anytime you feel the need to lay one on me.” The sexy man smirked like a loon. He knew how he affected me.

Knowing I could come out made me feel better, but it still wouldn’t be the same as what I had gotten used to.

“You don’t have to go, but I know you want to. Go have your first sleepover and you can tell me all about it later. I’ll miss you too, but I promise to make it up to you tomorrow night,” he told me, making my body tingle in anticipation.

“Is that another promise, Mr. Anderson?” My words came out seductively and his eyes simmered with so much heat I practically caught fire.

“You bet it is, Little Momma.” He fused his mouth with mine and devoured me on the spot.

When we came up for air, my heart was pounding and I had to take a few minutes to collect myself. I didn’t want the girls to catch on. Finally, under control, I got out of the car to get Denver and our things. Kace came around and carried Denver up the walkway to the house for me.

Standing at the front door he kissed me one last time just as the door flew open. I had an episode of Deja vu when I jumped back and found Alley standing there.

“Hey, ladies, Teal’s out here playing tonsil hockey!” she yelled for everyone in the house and the whole neighborhood to hear.

Kace groaned and I heard laughter from inside as Embry’s voice rang out with some remark about kissing again but didn’t quite make out what she said.

So much for them not catching on, I thought.
