Thad loomed over me, standing with his legs straddling each side of my hips, he leaned down closer to the ground where my body lay on the floor. Stars danced in my vision as his features blurred and then he spoke. “You were always too weak and stupid. I told you that you would never get away from me.”

My last thought was…

He won.

Then everything went black.

ChapterThirty-Six

KACE

I reached backfor Teal and my hand found nothing but air.

Dread planted itself in my gut and everything in me said something was terribly wrong. I whipped around and she was gone. Scanning the room frantically, terror took hold when I couldn’t see her anywhere.

Turning back to the group as the club's security started to escort the guys away and out of the bar, I sucked in a breath when I didn’t find her at the table either. I’d hoped I just missed that she’d sat down.

“Where the hell is she?” I yelled. Everyone's eyes left the group of bastards that had caused the commotion and undoubtedly something more.

“Kace calm down, man. What are you talking about?” Braxton stood from the table.

He was one of my best friends but hearing him tell me to calm down made me want to punch him. I knew it wasn’t his fault, but I wasn’t working with a sane mind.

“Don’t tell me to calm down!” I seethed. “Teal isn’t here and all those drunks yelling at your ladies would have upset her and I walked her right over!”

Alley stood then and came over to me, placing her hand on my upper arm. I jumped at the contact, my body radiating with anger. At myself.

Why couldn’t I have just held my ground and told her we were not going? But she had put her foot down and I let her. It was hard to deny her what she wanted after knowing how much she’d not only gone through but not got to do in her life. Who was I kidding? Regardless of the past, I wouldn’t have been able to deny the woman anything.

She is my world.

And now she is gone.

“Kace,” Alley whispered. “She probably just went to the bathroom to get away, I’ll go get her.”

With that, the other ladies got up and followed her. But that wasn’t all. Along with myself, every one of the guys did too.

Please be in there, baby.

I was so worried, I hadn’t even taken that into consideration. But as we neared the girl’s restroom doors, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Something didn’t feel right and I had always paid attention to those instincts when they arose.

All three girls pushed through the doors and I heard a collection of gasps. Not giving a damn who was in the women's bathroom, I came in behind them and the air in my lungs froze. Soon every one of us was in the small space and I stared down at the floor.

Teal’s purse lay there, everything spilled free from it and small trickles of blood lined a spot on the tile. My heart ceased to beat. I’d failed the women I loved.

“I’m sorry, Kace,” Alley said, breaking down in tears. “I thought she’d be in here. Someone should have been with her.”

Again, if I was thinking rationally I would have told her it wasn’t her or anyone else’s fault but the words didn’t come out.

“We’re going to find her,” Gyth’s gruff voice said from beside me. “We can handle this shit. Get your head on straight and let's find your woman.”

Shit, I was sitting there losing my fucking mind, instead of using my brain. Every second that passed meant things would be worse for Teal and make it harder to find her. Then as I stared at her belongings, Lyric spoke up. He was a damn good cop and must have been assessing things from the moment he walked into the bathroom.

“Where is her phone? I see a lot of shit laying on the floor, but not her cell?”

“I didn’t notice it on the table,” Jurnee said, sniffling back tears. She and Summer were crying right along with Alley and when I glanced at all three of them I couldn’t help but not be affected. They loved Teal as much as I did.

“She usually has it in her purse,” I told Lyric. “But I don’t—”
