I wasn’t laughing now though as my eyes scanned Rowan from head to toe and wondered how to get him alone just for a few minutes.

“Like what you see, Buttercup?” He waggled his eyebrows at me.

“You look okay,” I said nonchalantly with a shrug of my shoulder. “We better get going.”

Zander turned and raced out of the room. “I got to get my candy bag!”

It was so good to see him excited about going.

Rowan was staring at me as I moved through the bathroom doorway, passing him.

“Just okay?” Rowan’s deep voice asked. I paused, my back to him, and giggled.

He moved closer and leaned in next to my ear. “Well, you look hot, Wonder Woman. I can’t wait to get my hands on you again.” His husky voice in my ear sent goosebumps pebbling all over my body.

Everyone was dressing up and Zander and Rowan had come up with the costume I wore. I was feeling a little exposed, but the man behind me was enjoying it.

“We better go before I lock you in the bathroom and have my way with you, baby.”

I shivered right before he swatted my ass to get me moving.

“Damn, girl, you look—”

Alley stopped abruptly, not finishing her sentence, and looked around at the children present. She, however, slipped on the cussing and a certain someone picked up on it as usual.

“Pay up, Auntie Alley,” Embry told her, the palm of her hand out in waiting.

I knew where to go if I ever needed to borrow any money. That girl made a bank for her swear jar with all the potty mouths around her.

“Haven’t I given you enough to buy a damn car already?” Alley threw her head back and sighed realizing her mistake.

“Probably since your favorite word is the one you just said twice in a row and now you owe me double,” Embry sassed.

Between the look that Embry threw Alley’s way and her comment, I couldn’t hold back the laughter. Besides, she was as sassy as her Auntie Alley and it was fun to watch the two of them banter.

“I don’t have any money hiding in this outfit, we’ll have to get it later, girlfriend,” she told Embry.

All the ladies decided we would dress up as some badass woman for Halloween. Alley was rocking a sexy Catwoman costume.

“Fine, but don’t think I will forget,” Embry told her.

More laughter bubbled up and I held my arm across my stomach, cupping one hand under my wrist that was in the splint. Working to not jiggle my arm too much was a chore and my head was still hurting, but I would be okay.

My son and I were alive.

The little girl was intuitive and also as sweet as she was sassy. Coming over to me she wrapped her arms around me softly and looked up with a soft expression.

“I’m sorry you're hurting. My daddy, Uncle Rowan, and the rest of the guys will make sure you and Zander will be okay, Auntie Brin.”

My breath hitched hearing her call me that. I kept saying they were family, but when she said that it truly sunk in. I loved that girl as if she were mine and I knew all the other women felt the same way about each other's kids.

“Thanks, sweetheart.”

She smiled at me and then with no filter at all—true Embry style—she said, “When are you and Uncle Rowan getting married?”

I didn’t get a chance to answer before the woodsy scent of Rowan filled my nostrils and goosebumps broke out across my neck. The heat of his body wrapped around me as he moved up next to my back. Leaning in, his mouth close to my ear, he peered over my shoulder at the little girl. “Hopefully really damn soon if I have my way.”
