Something I’d been working on since Brinley walked back into my life.

“I wish Luke and Jelena were here.”

Gyth gave me a look that was both sympathetic and sorrowful. I knew he wished Luke was here too. “They are watching, so marry your woman, and live the best life you can with your family. That is what they both would want.”

“Thanks, man.” I gave Gyth a chin lift and he returned the gesture.

Gyth smiled then and clapped his hands together hard. “What do you all say we get these nuptials going?”

Everyone’s eyes snapped to him and cheers went up around the room. A little loudly for the small space, but who the hell cared? Nobody by the looks of it. And besides…

I was getting married.

It didn’t matter that it was nine in the morning and we were in a shoebox-sized hospital room. Or the fact that Gyth had to help me stand and I was wearing a pair of loose, black sweats and a white, short-sleeved t-shirt so the clothes didn’t rub against my bandages. The pink tie dressed it all up.

A laugh rumbled, silently inside me.

Where the tie came from was anyone’s guess. Embry probably had something to do with it. Maybe she made her mom help her get it for her dad at one time. The girl was crazy about pink, it was her favorite color just like it was Brin’s. So pink it was.

Everything was coming together. The fact we didn’t have to look over our shoulders anymore as we started a new life with each other was amazing. After the shooting, Lyric wanted to check on Stella and he also had a feeling that Michael would go to her home after the attack on Brin and me because that was what he’d done after he caused the accident, sending my woman and son off the road.

His instincts were right. Him and Kace together caught the fucker in his truck outside Stella’s home and that was the end for him. For all he’d done, the guy was going to prison for a long time.

It was time to put him out of our minds and our lives.

Ruby had helped put this together and was monitoring things so I watched her walk in from the hall and stand back by the door to the side. Everyone else, but Brin, Zander and Summer were already in the room. All our friends, old and new. As we waited I watched Lyric looking out of the corner of his eye at Ruby. I also saw Kace notice the same thing.

When Gyth had said he’d leave the good stuff to Kace, he wasn’t wrong. I was just glad it was directed at someone other than me when I saw him bump Lyric’s shoulder and say, “You know I officiate weddings too. Want to make it a double?”

The look on Lyric’s face was priceless and I couldn’t help the laughter that escaped when he told Kace very quietly, “Fuck off.”

They happened to be right by me so I heard it all and from the chuckle that came from Gyth, he had too. It was a good thing Embry didn’t. She had enough money as it was and Lyric would have gotten a good reprimanding from her mother over that one.

Summer walked in and went to stand across the room next to her son. Music started to play from someone’s phone and the song,From This Moment Onby Shania Twain and Bryan White started to play. The words were so right and every beat, every lyric of the song swept through me.

The door slowly swung open and my breath caught in my throat. The sight of Brinley walking in wearing a simple, but beautiful silk, white dress, with a sparkling, elegant diamond necklace around her neck, and a small pink bouquet of flowers in her hands, as our son led her toward me was almost too much to handle.

Tears gathered in my eyes.

She was stunning.

My son was proud.

And when they stopped in front of me, the tears fell down my face.

It was Zander who spoke first as he handed me a piece of paper he’d held in his free hand, which I hadn’t even noticed. To only be five, he was mature beyond his years.

“I have a gift for you, Daddy.” He held the piece of paper out for me to take and then kept talking. “Since you and mommy are getting married I wanted to ask you if I could have your last name like mommy will. So you can fill this out and then we will all be a Caddel.”

Sniffles could be heard all around the room.

I looked down at the official papers that would allow me to be added to Zander’s birth certificate and change his last name. God, these two were killing me in the best possible way.

Not able to squat down with my leg yet, I motioned for Gyth to pick Zander up and stand him on the bed. Once done, I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him close. “That is the best gift ever and I can’t wait. We’ll fill these out together as soon as we get home, okay?”

“Okay. Now can you marry mommy?” He pulled back and looked at me, then attempted to whisper, but it still came out loud enough everyone heard. “She said she has been waiting a long time for you and is a nervous wreck. So I think that means we need to hurry.”

Laughter replaced the sniffles and I smiled like a loon, turning to wink at my girl. “We better get a move on then, right?”
