“Where is Sienna now?” Cain asked.

“I’m not sure. Probably with Mateo trying to save what they can of the business,” I said.

“And if they can’t?”

“Then, I don’t know. I guess I’ll see her again soon.” I shrugged. It’s all I could say. Sienna would undoubtedly come for me when she realized there was nothing she could do to stop what was happening. I just didn’t know if she’d be coming to take me out or ask for my help.

“I wish you luck,” Cain said solemnly.

“Great. Can we drink now?” Declan asked, lifting his glass.

I raised my own, clinking it against his. “Bottoms up.”

“And let’s forget all this shit,” Killian agreed, downing the liquor in three gulps.

We played a few rounds with no bets and a lot of alcohol. It seemed the brothers had forgiven me now that I’d paid them back. Which didn’t surprise me. We’d known each other since we were kids, even if they hadn’t known who I really was. They knew Killian and had always just assumed I was his friend.

“Cain, you haven’t heard anything about the Snake around here, have you?” I asked, unable to help myself.

The brothers tensed, exchanging glances I couldn’t decipher. “No,” Cain said finally. “And it would be smart to shut up about that whole thing right now.”

“Why?” I frowned, setting down my cup.

“Because shit’s getting more intense around here, that’s why,” Declan said, replying for his brother. Cain shot him a dark look.

“What are you talking about?” I glanced between the two of them.

“You do realize that, since the murder of Giovanni and your mother, your families have targets on their backs, right?” Archer reached towards the center of the table, flipping the card over casually.

Killian and I shifted in our seats. “I figured,” I said quietly. “How bad is it?”

“Bad enough where half the underground wants both your families gone. But not bad enough where your men are giving you up,” Cain replied casually. As if he was discussing the fucking weather outside.

“Shit.” Killian tossed his cards on the table. “I’m out.”

Before I had the chance to interrogate Cain further, my phone went off in my pocket. I swiped it open without looking to see who was calling. “Hello?”

“Where the hell are you?” Sienna sounded beyond pissed. I nearly jolted from my seat.

“At The Salamander.” I didn’t bother asking why she needed to know. I’d find out soon enough.

“I’ll be there in ten. Meet me outside.”

“Who was that?” Killian asked, casting me a curious look.

“One guess.”

“The ball and chain?” Declan smirked. “You might need this.” Reaching into his back pocket, he took out his gun, sliding it across the table.

I rose from my seat, drinking the last dregs of alcohol before taking the gun. I slipped it into the waistband of my pants, pulling my shirt over it. “Thanks.”

“Don’t die,” Archer told me as I headed out the door.

“See you soon, brother!” Killian called. “Hopefully!”

I ignored Declan’s laugh, the door shutting out the obnoxious noise. Instead, music assaulted my ears. It was more difficult getting through the crowd without the giant bouncer to lead the way, but I made it to the front door. Walking down the long corridor, I tried to calm my nerves. Sienna wouldn’t call me just to kill me. She would have just taken me out like she’d planned with Marco the first night we’d met.

Stepping outside, I catch sight of her right away. She’s off to the side, leaning against the wall of the closest pawn shop. The shadows of the alley obscure her face from me, but I can tell she’s pissed by the set of her shoulders. Warily, I make my way over to her.
