I’m kind of regretting it.

Until his hand leaves the steering wheel, reaching out to me and tugging a knee until I spread my knees.

The hand slips under the material easily, sliding up, up, up . . .

His pinky finger meets my center first and I start to move, just a fraction to try and get him where I suddenly need him.

“Jesus,” he says, ring finger brushing up my center. “Fuck, are you wet?” he murmurs, eyes locked to the road, remaining hand on the wheel turning onto a side street.

“Your hands are on me, Ben,” I say, breathily.

One finger moves back down, gently brushing my entrance, dipping in a knuckle deep.

My eyes drift shut, and my head hits the back of the chair.

A soft moan leaves my lips.

And then so does his hand.

And the car stops.

“Ben, what—?”

“We’re here, sweet girl,” he says, a devious smile playing on his lips before those fingers that were just under my dress move to his lips, his tongue coming out to taste them, that barbell on his tongue that wreaks havoc on my clit glinting in the light.

“Let’s go.” And then he’s stepping out of the car.

Thirty-Six

-Ben-

“My baby! He’s here!”my mom says, running down the two front steps and walking toward me with both hands in the air. I walk with my hand in Lola’s from the street and up the front walk, letting go when we’re close and wrapping my mom up. “I can’t believe you made it, Benjamin!”

“Hey, Mom,” I say. “Happy birthday.” She pulls away, stepping back and putting her hands on her hips.

“Let me see you.”

“Mom, you just saw me a few months ago.”

“When you have kids of your own, Benjamin, you’ll understand that a few months feels like alifetime.” I shake my head but still smile, holding my hands at my side, appeasing her.

“You’ve seen me. Now can I introduce you to my girl?” I ask, the outstretched hand moving to pull Lola into me.

“Oh, my goodness, of course!” she says. “Gosh, I’m so sorry! You must know, Bennevercomes home. Is this your doing?” Lola stands, dumbstruck, and the look is cute on her. “It must be, a pretty thing like you? He’d want to show you off as soon as possible!” My mom pulls Lola into her arms, and it takes everything in me not to laugh as I watch Lola’s arms start stiff, confused, before returning the hug. “I’m Ben’s mom.”

“Lola,” she says, stepping back to me with a big smile.

A genuine smile.

“It’s such a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Coleman. I’ve heard so many lovely things about you.” I see it now. The politician’s daughter, winning people over with a smile and some sweet words.

My mom is already voting for her.

“Oh, you’re too kind!” My mom turns and waves, urging us inside. “Come on, let’s go find your father. Everyone’s here, your Aunt Joanie and Uncle Dave. Hunter Hutchins is here. Did you know he got married?” my mom asks. Hunter was Tanner’s best friend all through school. He left to build a business and then reconnected with my brother when he came back. He’s also Jordan’s half-brother.

“Jordan told me last time she was down.” I look around the crowded living room of my parent’s house, tipping my chin at a few people I know. “Where’s Tanner?” I ask, looking around for my brother and his girlfriend. They were the masterminds behind this mess.

“Oh, he’ll be here any minute,” my mom says with a twinkle in her eye. She always has that look when she knows something I don’t.
