Haven fell to his knees at that, clutching the trim of Thorne’s jacket, burying his face in Thorne’s groin. As he wrapped his arms around Thorne’s knees, desperation and fear formed a beautiful mask over his face. He continued to cry, whispering, “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry,” over and over again.

Taking a fistful of gold strands in his tight grip, Thorne pried Haven away from him and thrust him with great force against the bed. Haven landed hard in a slump, his head falling forward to hide his features. He continued to sob as Thorne turned and left, slamming the door behind him.

They were alone. The room was silent only for Haven’s muffled cries.

Cy wanted so badly to reach out, to comfort him. Haven was nothing more than a possession to Thorne, a piece to move across the chessboard, a pretty object Thorne could use.

And now Haven trembled and sobbed, squirming in agony. The amount of blood Thorne had taken would be enough to make Haven feel ravenous, dangerous. And the Ambrosia that now flowed through him undoubtedly made his arousal unbearable.

Even if Haven had willpower crafted of the strongest steel, Cy was in very real danger.

Haven

Haven teetered onthe brink of madness. He felt his mind going feral, desperately hungry, desperately aroused. It was painful. So painful. A hell all its own. Reminiscent of a moment in time he wanted so badly to forget.

Cypress was so close, only feet away, watching him with wide eyes. Surely the human knew the peril he was in. But those soft brown eyes showed only sympathy, not fear. Haven hated him for that.

He should hate him for more. Cypress had tormented him, made him feel things he hadn’t wanted to feel. But it didn’t matter now. It had all been for naught. Haven was sure it was over. He’d suffer it all over again. Losing the one person he’d come to truly care for at his own hands.

Because right now, Cypress was Haven’s greatest desire. Haven wanted to sink his teeth into Cypress’s neck and drain the life from him. Wanted to stick him with his cock and rut inside him until he came over and over and over again. He wanted to destroy him.

But he also wanted to protect him, to keep him away, to prevent any harm from coming to him. Either way, Haven was damned. There was no getting out of this situation unscathed.

Dammit, Haven wasn’t strong enough to overpower the need flowing through him. So badly, he wanted to reach out and own the human before him.

As he gazed at Cypress, another’s face clouded his subconscious.Tobin. Tobin. Tobin.

“Haven…” Cypress’s voice came as a shock, lulling Haven out of his comatose state. Their eyes connected and though Haven was sure the human could see the manic madness plastered all over his face, still he didn’t back away. Stupid, stupid human.

Slowly, Cypress inched forward, drawing nearer, though doing so obviously hurt. Thorne’s blow had rattled him. But still, he persisted, and Haven felt his control wane the nearer Cypress came. “Stay back,” he hissed.

“You’re in pain.” Cypress’s voice was gentle. Placating. Unafraid.

“If you had any idea how much, you would stay the hell away.”

“It doesn’t matter.”

Haven swallowed as Cypress continued to press toward him. “Stop.” Speaking ached. His throat constricted.

“Drink,” Cypress whispered. He titled his head to the side, baring his neck. “Drink from me.”

Haven balked. He wanted to. So badly. Cypress’s sweet blood called to him, beckoning. Stubbornly, he shook his head. “The Ambrosia lessens my control. I’ll kill you.”

“You won’t.”

“You’re a fool. After all this time, you act like you know nothing about vampyres.”

Cypress studied him. “I’m offering it to you. Do it so you don’t kill me.”

Soon, he was close enough to touch. Haven’s fingers clenched in the carpet beneath him to keep from reaching out and yanking Cypress to him.

“It’s what Thorne wants,” Cypress insisted. “He wants you to kill me. As punishment. Because, for whatever reason, you care about me. You’ve been protecting me from the others. He knows it would hurt you to kill me.”

If only this human knew how right he was. Killing him would destroy Haven. History would repeat itself, and Haven wasn’t sure he could go through that again.

“You don’t have to suffer,” Cypress persisted. “Drink. Put yourself out of your misery.”
