CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

MAGGIE

“I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” Law’s voice has my head popping out of the book I’ve been reading since Marina left me.

“This was my last guess before I called out the dogs.”

I pull my bottom lip between my teeth as I take in all six foot four inches of perfection that is Lawrence Bellamy.

“There are no dogs.”

He shrugs. “I would’ve found some.”

I shut the book, pushing it aside. “Where have you been?”

He huffs, taking a seat across from me. “Meeting with Julian about the same old same old.”

“What have you been doing?” he asks, browsing my stack of books.

“Marina and I were doing some research.”

“That so?” he draws out.

“Yep,” I pop thep. “I’ve been searching for information on guardians, the Fae, the blood bond... you name it.”

“Julian filled me in on the guardians. Did you find anything?”

“No. Nothing.” I blow out a breath. “There are too many books in this place.”

He nods his head. “Keep looking. Something has to be within the pages of these books,” he says, looking around at the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.

“Just thinking about going through each and every one of these gives me anxiety.”

He chuckles. “It’ll keep you busy and out of trouble while I sit through hours’ worth of pointless meetings with boring, stuffy vampires.”

I snort. “Trouble is my middle name, Lawrence Bellamy. I fear there is no amount of busywork to keep me from running smack dab into it.”

He pulls a face. “Please try. I may be immortal, but if there’s anyone who could find a way to stop my heart without the magic of witches, it might be you,” he says, standing.

I laugh. “So dramatic.” I rise from my chair as he walks around the table.

He pulls me in to his chest, lowering his mouth to mine. I open to him, our tongues tangling and kisses turning feverish. His hand skims down my ribs and slips underneath my shirt, raising to palm my breast. I moan into his mouth, encouraging his touch.

My back is lowered onto the table, our contact never broken. My hands land on the button of his pants, and he groans into my mouth, pulling away.

“As badly as I want to take you right here, this is Marina’s favorite spot, and our most likely chance of being caught.”

“You don’t want people to know about us?” I ask, unable to mask the hurt.

His forehead lowers to mine. “Sunshine, I want everyone to know you’re mine. Mine,” he stresses, staring down into my eyes. My toes curl and heat pools in my belly at the declaration.

I’ve waited for this for so long and now that it’s here, I’m struggling to grasp that it’s real. He truly wants me.

“So badly,” he groans.

I giggle at his pained expression. “Then I don’t care. Marina and Julian’s escapades are legendary around here. They’ve cleared entire hallways. Let’s see if we can rival them.”

“I think Marina might cut off my balls if she found out that way.” He narrows his eyes. “Unless you’ve already told her?”
